Hello I have a Power Base 500 that I got from Ebay. I paid $375 for this amp. Anyway, it has 4 1446 Pills in it. It putting out 400 watts PEP. I Want to change The pills to 2879. A Friend Said That It Is not worth it. How much do you think it will put out with the new pills. Should I do this?????

If you're lucky 450w output. So that's quite a bit of labor and about $90 for transistors for 50 more watts.

Oh so its not worth it. I thought Those 2879 Were watted alot more watts then those 1446's?

The transistors are just the first of many details. If you JUST change them, and don't adapt the other components to match, you may well have LESS power than with the stock parts. The power supply isn't large enough to deliver what the new transistors will try to draw, even if you adapt the circuit to accept the new RF transistors. The first time you pop the power supply, the price of a larger amplifier will start looking pretty attractive, in comparison.
