I was just given a tube type base amp. It's a no-name amp. I thought is was made by Palomar. The meter on the front has two scales with watts output 0-1000, and a reflected scale 0-100. The name Advanced Communications Technology reads at the bottom of the meter. Rotary knobs are Drive, Tune, and Load. Toggle switches are SSB/AM, OPR/STBY, Rec amp- on/off, sup-mod- hi/lo, and Rf output-hi/lo. It sits on top and is attached to an amp power supply. Rocker switches are AC power on/off, and Rf output- hi/lo. The entire Tube/amp and power supply casing is black all the way around. It has a Pewee Boxer fan on the back of the amp, and the fuse says Buss ABC 15. I opened it up, and I see 2 horizontal tubes 6LQ6/6JEC, driving 4 6LQ6/6JEC tubes stacked horizontally on top of each other. I'd appreciate any help in discerning who made this amp. My cousin (lady Rose) used it with a well tuned Starduster antenna 1:2 SWR. But her neighbors complained about not being able to watch tv, or talk on the phone. What would be a fair asking price for this amp if I were to sell it??? What will it do maximum RMS/PEAK ??. As you can see, I'm not into "Tubes". I't looks like it's at least 15 to 20 years old. Who makes this beast?????? |

From the sound of it, the maker of this jewel didn't want to be hunted down by the FCC for selling the thing. For this reason, very few amplifiers meant for CB use have the name, address, or even the country of origin (probably USA) written anywhere on them. Odds are 99 out of 100 or better, that the folks who made it have been out of business for 20 or more years. The FCC rules for amplifiers were tightened in a big way around 1980 or so. It put more than a few outfits who were making "sweep tube" amplifiers permanently out of business, along with the recession that arrived about that time. I didn't do a Google search on that name, but they aren't likely to still be around. Asking price is tricky. It's not uncommon for a good set of tubes ALONE to be worth more than an amplifier with those same tubes inside it. Amplifiers are becoming a buyer's market, and prices are cheaper than ever, so don't get your hopes up. In a generic way, six of those tubes should be good for at least 500 Watts PEP, and seldom more than 800 Watts PEP. A lot of little details will influence where your amplifier falls within that range. Never look for much more than 30 Watts carrier power per tube. More than that, and your time limit gets pretty short before the tubes overheat. 73 |

Sounds like a PAL to me but could be almost anything. |

Well, I just put it in a box with "Bubble Wrap" in it for storage. Who knows, if I keep it for let's say 10 years, this thing might make me "RICH". But for some reason, I just knew Palomar made this amp. That is, until I saw picures of the palomar 300A, and the palomar skipper 300. |
