I can't believe how much the simplistic Drake W-4s are selling for on EBAY!!!! They probably sold for $40-$50 new and they are selling for around $100.........Drake does not sell parts for these meters either.

MFJ-815B Cross needle. The W-4's are becoming somewhat collectable.

Hickok "Monitor39" digital "10 Meter Ham Band" avg/PEP frequency/watt/swr meter.
I use it in the house always, and to tune the mobiles.

Anybody know where I could get new l.e.d's installed? Hickok says it's too old for them to mess with.

CZAR.......I would have put my Bird 43P in one of my pickups but the possibility of a smash and grab thief robbing $500 worth of Bird equipment is unsettling. It is the best though.....it is good enough for the FCC also.

Here ya go XLAXX,

I run a Dosy 4002 PSW. I love the meter for my purposes (modulation on AM and SSb were what I really wanted). Purchased from Copper of course.

I have never played with a Bird or other high $$$ meters, and I have no doubt they are fantastic, but for my purposes, the Dosy is great.

For what it's worth, mine does not appear to be very "loose" (I see a lot of hype on the internet) , which is fine by me. Maybe some others might be, but mine reads tight. I would buy another.

Alsworld.........I like the direct reading SWR function like my Autek has and the cross needle meters are great too. I don't use the bird for reading SWRs...reading reflected power doesn't satisfy me. I would never diss Dosy and Astatic meters........they are fine meters. I just bought the Bird because of people bragging on them and the FCC using them........since I bought the 43P it still rains outside fairly often and the middle east is still screwed up so the Bird is not the answer to the World's problems.

Hey brother I hear that, as I would never diss one of those Birds either. I hear they are much more accurate for reading true watts, probably held to a higher calibration standard. I surely don't doubt that at all.

I have never tried one with the cross needles, and I'm unfamiliar with the Autek you mention but that doesn't mean much. Man I know there is so much still to learn and I'll be the first to readily admit I still have MUCH more to learn. But I do enjoy learning from everyone here. Good information Sparkomatic.

Now if we could just find that world peace meter.....
