Hey gang. anybody know of a company that might still make hand held ssb xvr's in CB land? Seems like recently somebody did, but can't find one. Radio Shack does not carry anything SSB related that i can find. Any help is appreciated.--73 Kirk |

Kirk, no joy in my searches for a SSB handheld. Midland has some quite advanced, and alot with weather channels but no SSB. I hope you have better luck (I was only searching for brand new handhelds). |

I thought an export company made a SSB HT. I remeber seeing one before. I think it was the Eagle Spitfire. Forum Master Note : We(Copper) imported the Eagle Spitfire. We stopped when we had trouble negotiating a price on the last batch. |

hey forum master- What if you had a select number of "pre-orders"? Would you be able to get the Eagles in small quantities? Forum Master Note : We were bringing in over 100 units at a time and had to commit to 500 total. |

After reading your posts I searched the warehouse to see if we had any Spitfires left that were not accounted for in inventory. I found a brand new one that we had held for warranty returns. I had the tech modify it for 11 meters. I am putting it up for auction with Ni-Cad Battery Pack 2' Rubber Ducky Antenna Tips and Tricks Volume #22 The starting bid is $150. Spitfire Combo |

That only makes me wonder what other 'treasures' are hidden away in your darkest corners. |

That's over $250 for a radio that retailed for $149 and could be found all last summer for $109. It's half the price of a Yaesu 817!!Yikes!!! |

I took a Cherokee SSB handheld along on a road trip last summer and was able to stay entertained with DX contacts using only a cheapo magmount center load whip and stock power. Using just battery and the long whip, it's good for what Bruce said and probably more depending on conditions. They are a cool radio, but not overwhelmingly impressive when compared to a mobile SSB radio. All of the models, Cherokee, Titan, Eagle, Albrecht, suffer from internal birdies and CPU noise on the receive, plus a tendency to get REALLY HOT at full power if you talk much. Personally, I believe the design engineer should be flogged for not including even a half decent NB or ANL. In the car, it's very noisy. No noise limiting or filtering at all on the rig. Hooked to a base antenna, it will overload the front end(enable ATT function), but gets really good audio reports and seems to reach right out there even on stock power. That said, for the original sale price of just under $150($200 or so for the Cherokee) you can't beat it for cheap fun. It's not a primary nor even a good secondary rig, but for just plain fun, it's great. I would buy another one. Now, if they would just come out with a 6m version................................... |
