I have a chance to pick up a Penetrator for $100. It's either that or the maco. any input? I don't think I can pass up the penetrator for the price... |

That isn't too bad a price for a penetrator considering how old they're getting to be. I've seen them on ebay go for $100-$300. Is yours in good shape? I have one also and had to replace the ground radials because one broke but they are awesome antenna's if I do say so myself. Depending on what band you're going to use it for like cb use, remember to measure out the top radials along with the ground radials to the proper lengths or your swr will be off. If you need these measurements, I can get them for you!! Let me know!!!!!!!!! |

Good antenna but i got mine for 15.00!!! Bought it off a kid that said it was junk and it didnt work. All it needed was a new gamma wire loop on the bottom were it fastened to the bottom of the antenna. Works fine now!! |

The Maco is a great antenna indeed! I hear stuff that other people can't. It is definitely sensitive. Hey, the Maco is like $70, the Predator is $100,... save $30 and put it towards another radio! hehehehe XLAXX |

The Maco will handle more power than the Penetrator. However, the Penetrator has such a convincing name. Either antenna will perform about the same. I will add that the capacitive top hat on the Penetrator does seem to add something to the receive capabilities of the antenna. It is less succeptible to wind static than the Maco. |

I have decided on the penetrator. It comes with 100 ft of rg/8u. couln't pass that up. BOXCAR, those measurements and anything else you can tell me about setting it up will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for the above opinions! sofkow |

Okay Sofkow. Here's the height measurements. This is from the very top to the bottom where the connector goes into. It should measure 22 feet, 9 1/2 inches. The ground radials should be 8 feet, 9 inches. Depending on how far up you're putting this antenna, I would measure out the height first and take a swr reading because I've had to adjust mine just a little shorter than what the specs said and that was the original manual for this antenna. Any other questions, let me know!! |

I've taken a very soft scratch pad to mine before with a little WD-40 on a rag to clean mine up. |

Steel wool is the ticket ! I use the wd also to keep things from corroding. |

WD-40 will not keep things from corroding, it will only prolong the time it takes to begin corroding. WD-40 is formulated to be a water dispersant (W D stands for Water Dispersant). It was intended to quickly remove water from metal parts prior to fitting. To truly prevent corrosion, you need to use Penetrox or a similar product. 20 years later, you can remove an antenna that was assembled using Penetrox, and it has absolutely no corrosion anywhere. Motorola specifies bonding and using Penetrox on all connections upon installation of their professional equipment, otherwise they do not honor the warranty. How's that? |
