I was looking at another site and found an add on that was a speech processor, I did some digging on the web and have found others. I am not talking about the mobile max, I am talking about the ones that claim to make your signal louder and less distorted. I looked on copper and they don't seem to sell them ( or I couldn't find it at least). I was wondering what the opinions on them were and what ones in particular are better than others ( if they even work ). thanks k.b. |

Cobra's 'Sound Tracker' while in transmit mode is a form of speech processing. Speech processing is a fancy way of saying compression or using some form of either digital or analog algorithm to change the average amplitude of the radio's transmit audio. This in turn causes a much more dense RF envelope which will in effect 'increase your range'. The only time a speech processor will reduce distortion is when it is used in liew of over-modulation. Speech processors used in combination with 'clipped' limiters is horrendous. Your local radio broadcast station uses audio processing to maintain average levels of all program material and increase loudness. Also, multiband processing can and does provide a more uniform sound. All the audio spectrum is balanced regardless of the original music mix or quality of the source material. The same thing can be applied to the transmitter of your CB radio to increase your perceived loudness and make your transmit audio sound more uniform regardless of distance from the mic or voice level. Don't get too caught up in it though. A legal CB radio has an audio limiter, which when combined with a clean amplified microphone (like the D-104) will 'process' your audio to a pleasant extent. |
