i wonder if the guys who make the antenna ever put one together.i put mine together today and everything went real well instructions clear and easy to follow, until i started to put the alunimun tube on the mounting block .hole was not big enough ,hsd to ream it out and fillaly ground some off, seems like when they put the mounting screw in the tube it made the tube bulge also where the 1/8" rods go had to be drilled out before they would pass over top of each other swr is fantastis will let you know on transmit and recieve.thanks

Skilletlicker, I removed the screw from the block and then screwed the aluminum tubing into the block. Then, I replaced the screw which gave a very tight fit. I also filled the plastic blocks with marine silicone which seals out water and moisture. After almost a year in the air, no signs of problems. It performs every bit as well as the Astro Plane it replaced. Galaxyraider, It is half folded dipole and half Marconi. It is actually a half wave design with a capacitive hat fed at the voltage node. Basically an 'upside-down' half wave dipole. I built some VHF models of this antenna a long time ago and played with them on the test range. A very innovative approach indeed. The 'hoop' at the bottom is purely cosmetic. |

tech 883 i was just wondering if the ring is cosmetic would the antenna work without it and its supporting rods thanks skilletlicker |

You could substitute a 2 foot long wire between the two bottom aluminum elements to connect them and you would get the same result. What do you mean by 'connecting rods'? Everything on the antenna is necessary, I was just commenting that the ring being in the shape of a ring is cosmetic. It could just as easily be a square or a single piece shaped like a half square or half C. Same thing electrically. I received another CTE Top One in the mail today and examined it closely. The UHF connector and the hex head screw both need to be loosened to get the aluminum elements to thread into the blocks properly. No problem. |
