I'm running what ever the heck i want, there is alot more people out there doing the same thing that i'm doing, but i'm not being stupid about it,for example,,telling everyone what i'm running and how much power, not having a license and transmitting on 10&12 meters asking for qsl cards and the funny thing is the ham operaters are talking to these people. I will admit, I'm a freebander but I know my limits and when to lay low. For that the FCC can kiss my ***, Any response's?

You'd be surprised at how long you can last out here on these airwaves by just playing smart, without a hiccup from the FCC. It's those that get stupid that draw unnecessary attention to us all (CB'rs or the freebanders).

For what it's worth, my definition of stupid is freebanding on the ham frequencies. I know there's more to add but it's a general definition.

In a previous life, the FCC was the big radio Nazi and really controlled the airwaves. Budget cuts have killed so much of their enforcement that those doing the same such as you Bradley will probably always rule the CB frequencies, give or take a few channels.

Modulate long and prosper. If you ever hear Florida, I'm 799 North West Florida on 38LSB.

Hello Team,
You guys in the Northern Hemisphere are not the only ones noticing changes
Your FCC dudes ain't the only radio frquency law enforcement group to suffer i.e. reduced budget, reduced staff levels.
We have had the same thing happening DOWN UNDER this way with our government run frequency NAZIs,the Radio Spectrum Management dept. of Ministery of Economic Developement.
They were hitting any bootlegging CBer or Freebander real hard in the late 1970s through to the mid to late 1980s,when the CB boom hit this country in a big way.
Keep on DXing

Hello everyone.I have a comment about the CB/FCC debate.I have been in radio since the 70s and frankly all I have seen is myth and urban legend.I was a member of a big well known CB club out of Dallas and I just never saw it.After I got out of the Army I lived in New England and again I never saw anyone get busted. You have to be really stupid to get busted.I got a letter from the FCC one time.It said they had recieved complaints from some people on my street about TVI.They asked if I was running a low pass filter and if so what was the model.I wrote them back and gave them the model number and that was the end of that.I never heard another word from them. There was an FCC office 20 miles from me in Dallas.I had a friend who was very paranoid who everytime he heard a knock at the door he would put his amps in a spot under the floor he had made to hide them.If you use common sense you will never have a problem with the FCC.They are under staffed and have bigger fish to fry.If you run massive power and interfere with hospitals or government frequencies or transmit on ham frequencies you deserve what you get.73s and take care.

I've run 11m since 1976 with all kinds of configs and power levels up to the ludicrous level, QSL info and all, and never heard a peep from Uncle Charlie. Of course, I also watched my P's and Q's regarding interference both locally and out on the air.

1. Don't be silly and offensive on the air.
2. Don't blow out the neighborhood cable system or local PD.
3. Don't encroach on ham or widely recognized and used utility bands. (I realize the lower and upper 11m band is listed as "utility" and "government", but in truth is rarely used by them)

If ye ol poster would like to take the time to check out www.arrl.org, specific the enforcement section, he or she would see that heavy financial fines are dealt out, equipment seized, in some cases people are sent to prison. Yup prison.

So before the poster gets themself into a legal prediciment that they would not enjoy they should at least know what might be headed their way.

As for myself, I much rather not bring down the rath of the law upon my ever so fragile head. Besides I would look terrible in handcuffs and those pink jump suits with the P on the back. :-)

MORE POWER, MORE POWER !
yea right !

I used to get splashed at least 20 channels by a guy who was about 15 miles away with an old thunderbolt amp and his mic set up to the "fry" position. (back in the late '70s)
The main thing is keep a clean rig, behave yourself, and you shouldn't bother anyone.
I used to push a Palomar 300a to the max and never had ANY complaints, even from locals on the next channel. In fact my TV antenna was 30' from my base, with NO TVI problems.
One thing I did do was ask my neighbors if I bothered any of them. No one even knew when I was keyed up!

If your going to run an amp, don't run junk !
IMHO, Find out who came out with the echo box and hang him ! LOL

Zardoz,

10-4/qsl/affirm/roger/yup/yessir on the echo ...

But I'm curious; did you intentionally pick a handle that represents the weirdest Sean Connery movie ever made?

Very Best Regards,

Bob

Yep, Had it for years. (mid '70s )
Back when I first got a radio it was "Dirty Hairy"
and that was given to me when I was a young electrician in a steel mill. for some reason I can get dirty working in a soap factory, and I used to have long hair,,,now a days I long for hair,,,LOL.
I was quite surprised to find out that there are a few 'puter users with "Zardoz" for their user name,,, I know one guy in texas that said since Zardoz was a floating stone (stoned) head it fit him perfect !
I took it because Zardoz stood for
"the wi-ZARD -of- OZ" in the movie and in the old D&D games or video games I always played the character of a wizard.
As Paul Harvey say's,,,Now you have the rest of the story.

the fcc has what they call (the bird in the air).no it is not an airplane, it is a satellite tracking system that tracks a signal when programed to. if they can track saddams radio or phone signals they can track yours. when you get there attention ,look out.

I'm sure they could focus their wrath on a rogue CB'er if they wanted to but I'd bet the FCC has their hands full of more serious business these days then to say, "Forget Sadam for a minute, we have reports of massive TVI, cursing, etc;.. in this neighborhood...." Then again, I bet the FCC has mucho funding and police powers lately because of 9/11. In fact they do and the justice system is using them in a round about way to gather evidence and convict everything from org crime to drug dealers.

I never understood people running huge amounts of power, and bleed all 40 channels! There was this group where I live in Va that were on channel 10! I’m not kidding, they were running in the 1-2 Kw range out of their mobiles! They actually had elaborate generator setups and the whole vehicle grounded, with huge antennas mounted! Apparently they would try to our gibberish each other to prove their manhood or something like that! Needless to say, others and I got away from CB for a while!
I do know however, a lot of them were busted by the FCC and incurred heavy fines for their stupidity!

Well it depends on what you call"huge amounts " of power.1-2 killowatts is not much power,now 25-50 killowatts now thats some power.I run about 600 watts in mobile and about 1000 watts at the base,no bleedover,no neihbor complaints,no problems !!! However I also run good equipment,not "peaked and tuned,.mod limiter clipped cb radios"If you run good equpment with good amps and modulation not over 100 % chances are you will have no problems running power.The problems come from dirty amps and overmodulated garbage radios ! I have run about the same type radios{yaesu,kenwoods} for about 15 years and have NEVER had ANY problems with the FCC{or anyone else}
