I Have been having problems with my radios heating up fast on my base antenna. I know thats a bad sign so i stopped. I switched from 4 radios. Change meters and jumper cables. My swr meter says my s's are like 1:1. +
Any suggestions of what to look for |

Your said 4 radios. Are they on a switcher? If so go to a single radio and antenna setup direct. Check SWRs and see if your still 1.1. If it still heats up your now isolated to cable and Antenna problems. |

PS...
and while you are at it also borrow another SWR meter and verify that your SWR meter is not defective. |

It has to be the cable or antenna. Because thats what i did ran them direct or through the meter sometimes two. |

Cobra,I have a RCI-2980,and when I first bought it and had it peaked and tuned the guy turned the modulation VR all the way up and caused it to heat up the heatsink on the back to the point that it would burn you.I took a chance and backed it off just a fuzz and no problem since.Still gets warm,but not even close to hot.Maybe this will help,Stepchild |

Do like I did remove the little metal cover off the heat sink in the back,if it has one transistor fill extra holes with a dab of hot melt glue then attach a 3"muffin fan to the heat sink.Power with external supply,like one of those cheap plug-in units,no more heat,cool as a cucumber. |
