I was wondering, why you don't carry Big Coil antennas like the 55, predator ,megatron, etc. Is it because those antennas are "Owner"made like coily, or is the reason the same for not carrying your discontinued ham radios,- "No Demand"? I'm quite sure that their are cbers out there who would love for you to sell them to the public. |

Wolverine, We haven't had much request for the antennas you listed. To get the best price breaks we need to order in large quantities. If only a few request an antenna then we can't buy in large enough quantities. Multiple lines of antennas also confuse many buyers. We have tried to carry the most sought after items and if demand shifts to another brand we shift with it or if something new comes out that we deem to a good buy we will offer it. If enough of the readers here want us to carry a specific antenna then we will try to carry it. |

That reminds me that I am supposed to write that article about the pro's and con's of the big coil antennas.... |

Tech833, it would be nice to see your perspective on these antennas. I just recently put one on my truck. The transmit and receieve has noticeably increased over an aging magnet mount K40, but....I suspect if I were to have a 102" whip with a spring in the same location, I would notice nothing more or less than the whip. I could not afford the height of a 102" whip from the roof of my Silverado, whereas the coil height is just about right. I realize it may or may not have been a waste of my hard earned dollars, and it's kind of funny running an antenna capable of 30,000 watts when the most I put out is 12 watts SSB LOL, but your technical expertise and opinion will be most interesting indeed. My receive and transmit increase has been noticeable however, and I will explain my (limited and untechnical) basis for that if you care. I have tried to be consistent in somekind of an evaluation but this was obviously not performed with the experience level nor proper testing range as you would put it through. I've only had it on for a few days. Alsworld |

Tech 833, please get right on it. I'm really interested on how these big name open coils compare to the industry standard Wilson Antennas as far as sealed coils go. Also, why do these antennas "Hear" or receive better than the wilsons. Maybe you can rank the open coil antennas in terms of effectiveness, and sturdiness in mounting applications, from a scale of 1 to 10, in your own technical opinions. I'm "Licking" my chops in anticipation! |

One other thing tech 833, if you do decide to carry a big coil antenna, I hope you'll consider carrying the "55" line of antennas. I think there is only one store in the United States that carries them, which name escapes me right now, unless the maker of the ant, comes out of the closet (Old man 55). |

Mostly, you should notice an improved bandwidth. Not an issue if you only run CB. However, if you also want to use the same antenna for 10 meters, then it becomes an issue. |

I have absolutely no stock decision making power. The person who does have that power reads the forums. |
