I simply cant run my d104, galaxy 99v and footwarmer together...nothing but squeals. i have to turn the mic gain way down on the mic and radio to drop the squeal but the audio sux. i have run the d104 with many other radios and amps - no squeal...any ideas?? thanks!

Probably RF is feeding back into your mike causind a feedback. Just like a Public Address System.

One way to check and see if this is the case is to just put another mike, say a stock hand mic, on the radio and see if it squeals.

D104 desk mic's have had a history of a ground loop within the base. To overcome this try wrapping the battery completely with electrical tape before putting it in the holder.
Also, because of it's high sensitivity, they are prone to pick up any stray RF that either the radio or amp may be emiting. Try grounding the case of all equipment to a common ground buss. The buss should also be connected to a ground rod or household ground.
Hope that helps a little

Bt, I run a galaxy 88 and a d104 it did the same thing. I wuould recomend you putting a stcok mic on there. Works great with a stock mic.

I have experienced this too.

A couple of times, by standing up or sitting away from the radio and amp setup can decrease this squeal. As de and Ironmask stated the D104's are super sensitive and pick-up everything.

thanks so far. it wasn't doing any of this with my varmint, only the footwarmer (hy-gain). i tried the stock mic and it is fine but i want to run the d104. i also put a 9 foot ground in at the base of the antron. also, do you think that the antron being mounted on 2 feet above the ground (neighborhood deal) would have anything to do with this? the footwarmer is set at 40 watt key and swinging 700...

BT, do what Ironmask said to try with the ground. Grounding your antenna/mount is fine, but not the same thing as what Ironmask is talking about--you need an "RF GROUND" in your shack. You need to ground the case of the amp and the radio to each other and to a seperate ground rod from the one you are using for antenna. The wires from the individual equipment can be attached to a copper pipe with hose clamps, and then run as short a wire as possible to your new ground rod from the copper pipe(ground bus). Try to put it right out a window from the shack to the outside. Doing this is probably one of your best bets---the antenna being so low and therefore radiating more into your shack than usual probably is contributing. You could also try a diiferent power mike, or reduce your mic gain a little.
