At keydown competitions,I see all kinds of Suburbans with what is called an "Endfire Array" on top, consisting of multiple Fighting sticks. The shop talk I hear goes like " I have 3 directionals and 1 hot". Does that term refer to- one of the antennas on top is the transmit ant?,or does that refer to the whole vehicle as a groundplane antenna powered by amps?? Inquiring mind, would like to know.

It seems no one on the forum can answer this question. I'd appreciate if some of the copper techs can take a shot at this. I figure that if the directional antennas are radiating,or reflecting that all must be hot in some kind of way. I just don't know!

I would say that the driven antenna is the hot one, like a beam antenna, you have directors and you have a driven element that the coax is hooked to, so thats my best guess.

"Endfire" refers to the rear most antenna hot, everything forward as directors. Some in the high power crowd run dual hots, some with front hot rear as reflector. In competition (sitting still) there can be various ways of combining antennas, how many hot, where it is in the system, directors and reflectors, spacing etc.

Sounds like the "hot" is the radiating antenna, with the rest being directors and reflectors just like a quad or yagi. But, I'm not up to speed on keydowns.
