I would like to know the differences between the Magnum 257 and the RatShack HTX-10? Are the mods the same for both radios? Any info appreciated. |

Right now i have 3 of them the htx-10 is a great 10 meter radio as good as anything out their but if you not a ham it will not do you any good The magunm 257 used a diffrent prosser otherwise the same radio and the radio shack service manual is 99% correct so get it ..... VERY NICE I RECOMEND it if your looking for a lot of radio for the money. |

Ryan ( and others ) The htx-10 is for the money the best 10 meter radio out their ..... it is the same as the mag 257 .....( the titan 458 is a single final model ) I have over the last 5 years owned 7 of them and right now have 3 This radio is VERY stable Very clean on all modes and all of mine receiver sens has measured on FM WORST CASE .4 for 12db s/n. STOCK radios my brother ( I have 2 both HAMS ) worked JAPAN moble on 10 meters i have worked eastern europe from central florida...... never have i had a bad report and even the one in my car which has got WET still works as good as new .... its a bit rusty. If you have the chance to get one DO SO they ARE great cheep multy mode rigs and with a transverter from tentec your all set for 2 meter and 6 meter ssb/fm |

The 257 ??????????? I dont know of one but if someone MAKES a processer like for the lincoln and your VERY good at working with SMT go for it. Right now i have 6 HTX-10's which i cleaned up on when radio shambles gave them away. No more titans gave the last 2 away to well deserving guys last month but if you want a good wide coverage radio it and that 257 are hard to beat! |

I keep hearing this over and over and over. Especially from the people who have NEVER owned or used a Magnum 257. Most of them think that the M-257 is THE SAME RADIO as compared to the other look-a-likes. The M-257 is in a catagory all by its self. Doesn't anyone ever read the radio reviews that Tech181 does? For those of you that are interested, look in the Copper Forum under "PRODUCT REVIEW". A lot of the questions asked on these forums are answered right there in the PRODUCT REVIEW section. But don't feel bad. Actually I never paid much attention to it either until just a couple of days ago. But i'll be checking back there more ofter now. And I have to admit, Tech181 sure is thorough in his write-ups. Anyways, the Magnum 257 may resemble the rest of them from the front only, but the similarities STOP THERE. ryan, you can't go wrong with a Mag 257. Power? 8-10 watts AM dead-key. 35 watts FM dead-key. And it will easily do 35-40 watts PEP on SSB (dual finals) only if the radio is set up correctly. You will have full control of your power "IN ALL MODES". That's great if you want to use a amplfier. You will love it. Jeff, kc0gxz. |
