I can't offer you any info on how to do the mods, but i can tell you after i had mine done it talks as good as any radio i ever had. I talk strictly ssb and talk all over the world |

Re 808 and Box.... Ryan is correct. An unregulated audio overdrives and results in a terrible mushey sound. Hmmm Lon if he were to put a varable resistor having the same total/max value of the original resistor could ol Boxie Not open up the audio just a tad bit but still allow him to set the cut off so that the audio is not overdriven. Heres my .002 cents.. Ive ran several radios that had the limiters removed and NEVER once had any problems.. Yes you can cut the limiter and run the radio and sound great on the air.. Just because you disable the limiter does -NOT- mean -YOU WILL- sound bad.. its the operator that decides weather he/she will sound good or bad by the operators knowlege of how to run the radio the right way.......... PS the wash base i had did have the limiter removed *gasp!* and also had what they call a PPC mod done to it and boy did she talk talk talk!!!!! |

I totally agree with you CM3885. I've heard some nice sounding washingtons but then the operator over doses on the mic gain and has it turned way up. I do have one question too and I'm not sure how to explain it but when I key this washington up, you can hear a faint like "booop" sound when the talkback is on. I've had it ever since I've owned the radio which I'm not the only owner of it. You made a comment on a PPC mod that was done to yours, what exactly is this anyway? Channels or more swing? BoXCaR |

Hmmm funny you should say that because mine did the very, very, same thing and ive owned 2 wash bases over the years!:-O one that was modded and one that was pretty much just stock.. I also know of an older guy that runs a modded wash base and his does the very same thing yours does and mine did with that "boop, boop!" noise!!! LOL I Know the mod PPC but i dont have my papers here with me since im at the G/F place.. All my stuff is at the folkses right now.. |

Now i also have a mooded 142 GTL with the limiter intact and it mods the same way but it is ok and doesnt have the noise.. One thing i have noticed when i moded the wash and the 142 is when you removed the limiter in these radios the swing stays the same so i pretty much leave them in place.. The one wash base i had already had the limiter removed so i ran it the way it was but just added the PPC mods... |
