I haven't had a mobile in about 10 years and I'm looking for something reliable, powerfull, and something that won't kill my wallet.
$ 289.99. I was looking at the CONNEX 4800 DXL/E WITH ECHO...but is it really possible that the freq range is Frequency 24.2650-29.6650 as Copper states? and can the echo be turned off? That sounds like an awful lot for a 10 meter radio.

Then there's the Lincoln...is that ssb?

I'm looking at spending below $300 if possible...

thanks all..bear with me here....my last mobile was a hygain V.

Sofkow,
Some may argue but here's my suggestion. Superstar 3900 (read the review if you haven't already) - $119 + $30 mod AND they drive my next suggestion without any problems or garbage cleanly. KLV400 - Nice mobile amp with preamp (about 180w) - less than $100. Trust me, it's a good combination for the money, I know...or you could spend big $$$ and not sound any better. This will leave you some room for shipping, an antenna and still get you in real close to your budget. I had a Hygain in '77 but it wasn't my last mobile ;)

I like the 4800 best simply because of the ACTIVE freq counter. Most others have a passive counter that does no good for seeing just how far your tx and rx is apart. Additionally it has the unlocked coarse clarifier along with a locked fine clar. 4800 gets my vote.

Save your money,... get a Cobra 18 Ltd with stock mic.

Just kidding!

I have to agree with Bruce, but replace the Magnum 257 with a Voyage 9000. I think this rig is pretty darn nice for $179.00. Put the rest of the $ towards a decent amp and antenna, antenna and SWR are the key.

The rci dx model makes a excellent mobile.. Alot of things you can do to the radio as well.. It doesn't come with echo, but you sure can ad it.. In my book, it's the best buy radio...
