In a big city like NY some operators jsut don't have the sense of accoutability they should. Case in point, things were hot around here on the 11- meters about 7 years ago. Turn on your rig every night and every channel had a crew that hung out on it. Now every body is pretty content until some jabber jaw who probably either won a law suit of dealt drugs popped into the picture. He sure didn't work for a living because it was nearly 24/7 getting splashed on all 40 with big $$$ power. No one could talk for a few mile radius except I guess when this guy would blow a final and be down for a few hours. He reduced everyones set-up to a a usless pile of junk. It was this ding dong or nothing and right there on channel 20. splashing a good deal on either side. Why should the whole neighborhood have to go uppers and lowers, switch to SSB... no,no. So, these guys triangulate his signal, or track him with the RF gain and then start holding the coax just off the so-239 in the rear of the radio until they come to this apartment building where if you looked closely and far back enough there was a Moonraker. He had to be running a few KW and he'd come over the regular AM radio in the car. Later than night, up went a hook and cable, a rather drunken mission, and down came the what looked like monkey bars(it had a lot of elements) with a little resistance. God only knows how he got away with running juice like that for the week or two he did. OH yeah, and he'd key up either rap or reggae when he wasn't on breaking chops. So, a big tug, down it comes, then a big deal of resistance. another tug from the bumper of the car and although hidden from sight, the sound of a window breaking as the rest of it gave way. Real long section of RG213 nearly pulled the bumper off the car as it got caught under the wheels of a city bus. Now thats some tough coax I gotta say. And then just get the **** outa that neighborhood. Never heard a peep again. Also, knew a guy who would take a 9v battery and put a transistor, a diode, capacitor.. don't know, not a tech, on it and then wrap the little thing in electrical tape and toss it like a grenade on the roof of the offender. Supposed to send out a tiny bit of RF for a few days. Just enough to screw up the guys recieve with a whine untol the 9v goes dead. Anybody know more about this dirty trick?

Hey Orion,
I don't know what part of NYC you're from , but I'd sure love to see somebody put an end to the 30-40 "dalla" vans that run up and down Flatbush ave in Brooklyn. These guys must run 100w to talk to each other a few miles away. Sometimes I can drive with my RF Gain all the way down and still get 30+ off these guys. They normally use 34 AM as their talk freq, but will completely drown out everything else with their splatter. Puts 19 completely off the air when they key up. So now we have to figure out a way to do it.
Any suggestions???

i got a 27mhz x-tal controlled remote control for a car. it was the cheap kind where you'd hit the one button and it would go reverse and turn. one night i loaded it up with batteries, soldered the appropriate x-tal into it and left it in someones front yard with the button taped down. this guy had to be running at least 800W and would splatter all over the place. it was enough for the constant tone on his channel to annoy him. and i got my jammer...uhhh i mean RC car controller back. never heard him since

Orion-
I have been reading your posts on the Forum.

I was saying to myself,..."This guy is a pretty good writer and tells a well-written account of things."

Checked your profile and sure enough,... Orion is a professional writer!

Keep up the stories!

I personally like Orion's "hook and cable" method of dealing with an offender over the "bug". har. 'Fess up Orion, were you involved in this little escapade or just relating a story?

Years ago (back in Sydney Australia) we had a CBer (pre-legal days) that would abuse the youngsters who were on air. We made a little circuit that used 1 transistor (2n3055 I think), 1 crystal (27.125Mhz) a coil of wire, a tuning capacitor from an old BC radio and a 9V Mercury battery. We just tossed this in the gargage under his mast and for the next 5 months he couldnot hear a thing. The battery lasted almost it's shelf life.

This was a classic here in the Bronx:
Get a cheap walkie-talkie, wire solar cells to the battery power connection, you could also seal it in a zip lock bag. Place the walkie-talkie on the roof of the truck, or at the base of the offender's antenna. Another one was we made up fake FCC letters, announcing an inspection, of course it was fake, but that usually gets results too.

You guys and the big city life.. Here in this little city of maybe 200,000 people has these problems as well... Like Bruce was saying, the old walkie talkie trick, it works great specially if you hook it up to a car battery which will last about3 days before it has to be charged up again.. And this way, it won't land anyone in jail, as with the crysat or RC tricks that were mentioned as well...

A few fella's in town here, bought some of that high strenth rope,( the name illudes me) and they tied a washer around the end so they could make a nuse after they threw up and around the antenna.. Then of course they had it set up already were they had about a thousand feet tied together.. So these fella's as they said it, went on there mission, tied a nuse around the antenna and had the other end to there bumber.. Now there set to go, and they live about 5 miles away from were this is all taking place on the outside of town were there isn't many people living there.. Now the guys have it tied up and now they take off, they don't stop until they get about a mile away from home, then they discover, that they not only brought the antenna down, but they also made the radio fly threw the window and down the road it went with them... Now that would shock me to be sitting there looking at the radio and it all of a sudden jumps out the window and down the road it goes... He had it coming just the same, i would of used the walkie talkie trick again myself..

What about us guys that live in a town of only 5,000 or so? Back in the mid 1970s guys used to pull down antennas and pin coax and make bombs and all kinds of stuff... LOL! This stuff goes on all over even here in the heartland..

Wow, I've been away for a bit and see the "Neighborhood Nusance" post has drawn a good deal of feedback. I also see I have some neighbors.. Barracuda for one. Yep, 34 hits me with 20-25db half the time. Perhaps we'll cook something up for them eh? >:-) Xlaxx, thanks for the flowers. I'm actually an assistant editor for Ben Bova and have done editing for Dean Koontz as well. Ben Bova is science fiction, Koontz is a bit more widely known and most would equate his work with that of Stephen King. That said, I must now pay greater attention to my grammer, punctuation and typos. (Believe me, the only difference between an editor and anyone else is that an editor clicks spell and grammer check on the word processing program. Put me out of business these confounded programs will! Well, I guess this isn't the forum to talk about sci-fi so I'll get back to the original thread...
Copper sells a book by George Hayduke on dirty tricks. From A-Z its got a few under "c" for CB tricks. The best he's got in their is the pinhole through the coax but it pales in comparison to the wealth of nasty ideas I just got in this string of replies. He's got a bunch for cars too: nuts'n Bolts in the hubcap, a split shot sinker on the accelerator cable going to the carbureter(see what happens after you pump that peddle once before starting LOL) Its pretty funny but as you can tell it reaks of the 70's. I mean, who would dedicate a section in a contemporary Dirty Trick book to CBs, hubcaps and non-fuel injected cars? Makes a good coffee table book if you've got a small coffee table though.
