Saw a Uniden GR XL with diesel mike and a heavy duty export power cord for $50.00 at a local pawn shop(the owner knows little about CB radios so i asume he priced it as a AM CB instead of a more exspensive SSB unit )and was tempted to get it but i was hesitant.. The price was $59.95 used but i asked him and he said hed sell it for $50.00. I might go back later on maybe next week to see if he has it. He said if i wanted it he would sell it with a 7 day warantee and if it didnt owrk to bring it back. HMM what do you guys think is it worh the 50.00 or should i let it be???

all i have to say is take a look inside before you even leave the shop. make sure things like the limiter are intact and theres no fried up components

Yeah, you can sneak up on some pretty good deals lurking in pawn shops. I picked up a virgin Philippine made 148 for 50 bucks a while back.

I agree with Buck. With a 7 day warranty, what have you got to lose?

I might get it!! The limiter is no big deal because ive bought and ran radios with no limiter all the time so no biggie. Heck if its in good cond resell it and get my $$ back!!! I know around here they sell used in good cond for about 100 to 15 dollars and more with "extras"!!!!!!!

Just be warned ahead of time, that the pawn shops like you said no little about the radios.. There idea of testing it, is to hook it up and key it down with-out a antenna to see if it tx's.. Not all but alot...

Ebay i would have to agree is a ok place to shop, as long as your being carefull.. I have bought several good radios(new) that all served me well while i played with them...

take care and good luck..

I know I know.. Ive been in radios for 10 years so i know what to expect out of the pawn shops... Hey for 50.00 you cant go wrong and if it does have some problems i can get it fixed and still come out ok in the end.

Well well well. i got the radio today before i went to work and bought it for 50.00. It is in pretty decent cond overall and has a Diesel noise cancelling mike( although i hate those mikes) and a Galaxy cord. I opened up the radio and was suprised it was in clean cond but the Mod limiter is gone(no biggie i expected it) and it has been converted for uppers. The reciver is superb and works great. I think i got as pretty good deal overall. I think ill either keep the radio or fix it up and sell it.
As a sidenote does anyone know of a good NPC/PPC mod for the Grant and i need some VRs for the radios insides. The RX meter seems a tad low to me.

I bought a DAK 9 at a local thrift shop for $25 bucks (non_working) but the fix was simple.
