This is for fun only so dont take it seriously ok guys?
Ok you get a big radio from Coppers and youve just paid 600.00 for the thing (price of radio, shipping and the 30.00 tune up) plus you buy all the "fixins" D 104 mike, amplifier, 40' tower rotor, beams, coax, and lead in wire.
One night when you get it all hooked inline and you finally get ahold of your fave radio bud on the phone and tell the dude to go to your fave channel. When you 2 are theyre you key up the mike and say "hey dude hows this radio sound i got it new today" and his response? "Uhhh if thats you it sure doesnt sound like you at all what the he&& did you do to that thing? If thats the new radio if i were you id send it back!!" You try everything diff mike diff mike sittings and so on and the same ol s*** you sound awful..... Disheartened you shut it off and walk away. OK how many of you have had this really happen???

Hasn't happened to me but I've heard people come up on our ssb frequency with those $400 plus "black" radios that won't tune properly for ssb use. (clarifier not coupled to xmit) finally give up, crawl back to AM and accuse us of being "off frequency". I get a kick out of that. If the last to arrive on a particular freq cannot tune to the group then who is off frequency? We all run HF rigs.. Man you'd be suprised how much HF radio $400 will buy if you just look around. General coverage stable xmit/rcv, 100w all mode. One of our group just bought a Yaesu 747GX w/35 amp power supply on E-bay for a little over $400. Sounds GREAT in all modes.

Yeah thats why in run my 3500 for exslusively SSB use and my other rigs for AM use.. I happen to run a big black radio (RCI 2995) and it seems to work great in all modes but the other radio like the G-saturn and a few other black radio do tend to run off a little.

If it's the 600 dollar radio, copper don't have many of those, so i know which one it is, and i can tell you that nothing sounds better, than these RCI radio....

But here is what i hate when i first get a radio, i key up to make contact, and of course i ask the question, and they respond in saying, what did you do??? Your in the mud.. LOL never fails...

peak and tune tooken care of that problem..

take care and im sure your enjoying the raido just the same...

I hate when you turn on your new radio and it trips the circuit breaker for your shack.

I guess many times we want to hear what we want to hear. When we set up a station we want to sound loud and stand out. That, "What did you do" comment tells the tell, coupled with, "you're not near as loud as you were." The truth is the truth. However, it is good to get several opinions.

I remember one poor guy who was talked into taking down his metal groundplane to join the club of guys who were putting up 16 ft long super big sticks. He got him one. When he got on the air and talked to me, he said, "where did you go." I didn't want to say it, but, he was down about one s-unit and sounded more like a mobile than he did before. I don't know about the 21 ft big sticks but I can now recall two experiences where the 16 ft model big stick just didn't match up to the metal groundplane. "Where'd you go." Words of horror. Especially for someone who has to go back up a 100' tower or back up a 70 ft pine tree!

Later,

one small idea might to be to...NOT tell any one that you have a NEW ( or USED but NEW to YOU ) rig, dont tell a soul that you have a new rig and IF they say something dont sound like it used to....THEN worry about it...band conditions very even in a 15 minute time frame and you might not sound as good even on your OLD trustworthy rig....so please dont take a bit of criticism to heart, some folks wont tell ya that YOU sound better from jealousy...personally I just key up the mike and talk..if I am muffled or squealing, some one will tell me FAST ( or if you watch the METER, you can tell if you are squealing a lot of times )...just trying to help....some folks will NOT tell ya any thing GOOD ( like getting a compliment out of a pessimist...lol )
