Does anybody know of any good anntenas out there that are very high gain, and have a really good match like 1.3 through, 25.000 through 28.000. Thanks for any suggestions!

The only mobile I am aware of that has that kind of bandwidth is the Van Ordt Pow-R-Whips. However, they are apparently not available any more. Keep an eye on the web for some used antennas.

Wow, I totally forgot about the 'screwdriver' antennas! That was a good suggestion, 558. They do work very well.

Oh. The screwdriver may not hold up for very long on a big truck. Try and find yourself a Van Ordt Pow-R-Whip.

Well I'll be....

I wonder how the finger stock holds up to the vibration and thrashing. Does anyone know how LONG a screwdriver antenna will last on a big truck? My guess is not really long.

Well

Considering I have several friends who have ran them over the last 3 years with no problems except the Yaesu version ATAS 100 which didnt keep a good weather seal and caused failure but was replaced with a ATAS 120 and has been great for 6 months so far,,, but the others (Tarheels, Siera's) have held out a lng time like i said 3 years or more

As far as broading goes, I have had the best luck with the Anttron 1700 with a (depending on how and where it's mounted) minimum bandpass of 1.5 Meg. Like you, I also prefer the lower frequencies.

The Anttron company is still in business and is now owned by a long time Ham who worked for Antron for many years and was one of the people instrumental in the design of the original Antron 99 which was eventually sold to Solarcon.

When the previous owner took ill and decided to close the plant down, Kenny bought it from the family and moved everything from Youngstown OH. to (I think) OK. That's why the name change and why many people thought that Anttron went out of business. It just took them a while to make the move and get the machinery setup and running again. Sorry. I guess I got off the subject a bit.

The Anttron 1700 is a 6 footer. (The longer the antenna, the more signal you are putting in the air). The bottom 2 feet is fiberglass and the top section is 4 feet of 440 stainless steel. A very rugged antenna. I have installed and co-phased many pairs of these on trucks for drivers that have the multi-band radios. They like a antenna that will easily work on channel 19 and also get down to the "other" trucker channel (26.285 which is two full bands under the regular ch-19) without running into a screaming SWR. Wilsons can't do that.

Six feet of antenna is about the maximum you can safely go when mounted on mirrors. Drivers don't seem to have any problems with them clearing bridge over-passes. And besides their 6 foot length, they are also a 1/2 wave length. That's two advantages over the Wilsons. That's an advantage as long as you don't angle them to such a outragous degree that you look like a charging bull running down the highway. (If truckers actually knew how a antenna radiates, they would NEVER do that).

The Anttron 1700 is just a suggestion. You may want to look into it. 73s.

Jeff, kc0gxz.

Thank you kc0gxz. I am looking into getting one, i will give it a shot. Does this Anttron 1700 have a good gain? And will the swr be 1.5 or below on all bands? Thanks again for your help!
