I've had the recent opprtunity to physically inspect both as a matter of fact. Unfortunately there was no means to operate them. Echo? The Connex has a dual control knob on the front panel for both time and intensity parameters and it's digital echo as advertised. The 6900 has echo BUT, unlike it's AM/FM only 6300 counterpart, it only has echo on/off. The setting you want can be set inside the radio. Find the ideal and close it up. Thats ok if you have an ideal setting preference but if you like changing it on the fly as you can on a Connex, forget it. Unless you install a dual control knob somewhere.
Both radios appear quite solid and well made. If you like the look and feel of an old 148GTL, that's what you'll see in the Connex 4800. Nothing negative there. The Ranger seems to have a far more modern look, matte with easy grip black knobs. Bit more of a professional appearance IMHO but Classic looking it isn't.That goes to the Connex. Knobs turn like butter and function switch and knob selections work similarly on either. No chinsy cheap feel here. Both are pretty cool looking and although I don't know for a fact, I'd bet the guts inside are similar. I'd make the choice based on preferences for either a modern or classic look and the Echo control issue. Price issue favors the Connex and all things considered, the far better bet.

As for finding someone who has actually owed and used both of these radios in everyday use to compare them, you might be waiting for awhile for a reply.

You might find someone who has owned one and loved it and then you will find one who has hated it.

You can also use the Search area and find out what everyone has said about them, and the problems they have had with them in the past.

Problem is no one here were I live has had either of the two.. Most guys around here all like to run older Cobras, Unidens, Rangers, and Galaxys. They also tend to have the narrow mindset that something that is new and not used on the local CB channels is junk until proven otherwise... I think ill either go with the 4800 or the 2970.. Its a $$$ factor rignt now though... I actually like the board that the 4800 uses and it is modifiable for power mods and is easy to work on VS the surface mount board in the 2970 although I did work on a 2995 once and did a PPC mod to it. But on the other hand I like the extra OOMHP that the 2970 uses and the receiver in the newer 2970s and as for the echo? Well, I almost never use it unless I want to agitate!! LOL
