Just wanted to pass along to my fellow Forum Members that Radio Shack has some ROCK BOTTOM prices on HAM equipment and just about everything else related to radio! Don't email Bruce! I already did! Yesterday, I bought: -(2) MURS CTCSS VHF/FM #19-1210 for $19.99 each (regular price $120 each). -(1) 10 meter HTX-10 #19-1110 for $49.00 each (regular price $150 each). If anyone is interested in purchasing one of these and can't find one, let me know as 2 of the Rad Shacks in my area had one on display only. This is just like the Magnum 257 but not expandable. -(1) 2 meter/FM HTX-252 #19-1127 for $69.97 each (regular price $270 each). Last one that I could find and a decent little rig. Hey,... $200 off, what a steal! Excellent prices for these radios **NIB**. A good way to cheaply step into Ham/Amatuer Radio without losing your shirt. Also, they had loads of scanners that were drastically reduced. Which scanner is the better of the Radio Shack models anyway???... maybe I'll go back and buy one! hehehehe Cheers XLAXX |

Bigbob, A MURS RADIO is one that is designed to operate in the "151.625- 154.600 range. MURS stands for "MULTI USE RADIO SERVICE' There is "NO" Fcc License required to operate in the MURS band. 19-1210 is the Model Number of one of the radios made by radio-shack. A 2 Channel / 2-watt Mobile. It has programing switches inside to give access to 151.625 MHz, 151,700, 151.760, 151.820, 151.880, 151.940, 151.955, 154.570, 154.600. Hope this helps some. Chris142- I just picked up 2 more MURS for Dinker1 at ***$19.99/ea***!! It's pretty comical because the salespeople look at the CLEARANCE PRICE and then double take on the ORIGINAL PRICE. I have heard many salesperson say,..."Man, that's pretty low." I just picked up a 5/8 wave 2m mag mount antenna for $14. Went to another Rad Shak and picked up (2) glass mounted 2m antennas for, check this out,... ****$4.97**** a piece. They are $39.99 original price! SILLY! Here's the kicker though,...they had PLENTY more antennas. The antennas say, "Amatuer Radio" on them too with the old style Radio Shack logo and cheesy blue wrap. I don't know why but the Rad Shak's around Wash, DC have some radio stuff in stock. I spoke with a salesperson yesterday, she said that Rad Shak is "getting out of "mobile radios..." and "discontinuing certain items". >>Forummaster- I appreciate you letting me post this thread. I am not in the business of making money here, taking advantage of free advertisement off the Forum OR taking business away from Copper Electronics. My intentions are genuine and honest. I just wanted to help out my Fellow Copper Members, let them know what is available to them, and to help them take advantage of extremely low prices. Again, my business stays with Copper. You guys are top notch and have the best service, no doubt. Please consider the post only as a public service, so to speak, and not an infringement on your business. Thanks XLAXX |

Lon/808- Great description of the MURS. Actually, on the MURS box, it says you must have an FCC license to operate but from previous posts, I believe the FCC opened these bands for use by citizens with NO license required. Again, you can see that these radios have been sitting around waiting for homes. Cellular is taking over. You should have seen the line at Rad Shak for cellular service... wait till one of those cellular towers malfunctions,... we'll see who's communicating then. hehehehe XLAXX |

Dang. Missed the first posting of this. But... Called one of the the local stores to see if they had the MURS in-stock and they had 2. Got-em! Thanks Xlaxx. With the Shack doing deals like this, there should almost be a sub forum for Radio Shack Closeouts. |

if a salesperson says they are out of 'em,tell them to check around their district or region.they can access other stores computers to see what they have in stock!even after that they should be able to "order" some of this stuff for you.don't let them BS you and say they can't do it...THEY CAN!!! i was told the 19-1206 MURS handhelds were all but gone;well so far my local ratshack has gotten 3 for me and are getting in 3 more.these are really nice handhelds for 19.99!! good luck all. slim cdx285 |

Slim1- You are correct. The Rad Shaks in my region/district DID look up item #'s for me. The N. Va and Wash, DC has many Rad Shaks around. They did have 1 handheld MURS available for me, but when I examined it, the rig was broken and missing knobs. I am not sure if you can ORDER radios from Rad Shak as their NEW catalog is out there. You will need an old catalog number. Anyway, glad you and Viking got a few MURS coming your way. Check out 808's link. MURS looks like it will be pretty fun for all! Glad I could help... XLAXX |

Darn I was trying to think of a way to buy some and make a few $ on Rad shack... Yea Bruce I realized that you had answered that after I submited the question (sorry). I did a little more research through the forum and got my anwser. I had already gotten my DX77 from copper (I really am enjoying it) just trying to get my SWR's down to a reasonable level at this time though. Think I am having a grounding issue in my company vehicle that's keeping them high, (darn fords). |

The Radio Shack 19-1210 can be set to two of nine channels. Is this correct? But only five are to be used without a license. Correct? Also what would be a good mobile antenna for these units. I was able to find two. Trying to be sure of rules before operation.I checked out the MURS site that Tech 808 posted. Still confused as usual. Thanks for any help. Whiskyrunner |
