I have a wilson (lil wil)cut for 10 and tried to cut it down for 6. SWR's never got close and I cut it down to nothing. Stopped when stinger got below 1 foot. Do any of you know of any common 10/11 meter mobile antennas that can be cut down to work on 6. Not a good available selection for 6 and my tri-bander doesn't work very well on 6 but fine on 2.

I've got 2 abs1600, I wonder if these can be cut down to work on 6 as a base antenna?

I did buy a skylab and will try the mod given by Bruce to make it work or 6, but could use some advice on converting a mobile antenna of a straight vertical base antenna to 6, if it is even possible.

Thanks guys,

A 5/8 wave 2 meter is a 1/4 wave on 6 meter,, you may want to try the wilson 5/8 2 meter mag mount

I agree with 558. Another good base antenna is a copper skylab cut down to about 57 inches mine at 30 foot is a all around winner on 6!

A steel whip antenna cut to 57 or so inches would do it. (Start at 59 and start trimming till you get it tuned to the portion of the band you are using.)

I will try the skylab, thanks Bruce and he steel whip soundsgood also, thanks znut.

I called a ham shop in Dallas today and tried to get them to order me a yagi for 6 and they didn't want any part of that. They have nothing in stock so I will try this for now and perhaps order from HRO or another in the future. Hopefully this will get me out. The radioshack discone doesn't cut it on 6. The swr in low but I can't hear very well and my dx70 will only do 15 watts with this antenna.

Thanks everyone,

Znut.

You're right about the 102" stainless whip. The State Police around here are using the cut-down versions on 39-42 Meg. I don't know their exact length though.

Bruce

Do you think a I-Max-2000 with a 102" SS whip could be cut to 6 meter resonance? And if so, what do you think the wave-length would be?

Anttron has a over priced 5/8 wave 6 meter antenna called the 5054 that looks a little like the A-99 but is 12 feet in length and is a two piece. It reminds me of a A-99 without the top section. I have no idea what the actual specs are on it.

Your thoughts please. Or anyone?

Jeff, kc0gxz.

the BEST CB to 6 Meter convert ant is the copper skylab i have no doubt others can be done but the antron5054 is JUNK ..... sorry in calling it like it is .... the one person i know who bought one had bad solder conections in his and had to rework it. I dont know how the i-max 2000 is matched if its a trombone tuning stub it should cut nicely if its a wound coil at the base you would have to remove turns. The skylab you simply cut it to about 57 inches all radials and go work 6 meters! Mine VSWR @ 50.1 mhz 1.7 to 1 @ 51.5 1.3 to 1 @ 52.525 1.5 to 1 Fed with 75 foot of mini 8 not fancy but works very well best $45 ive spent in a long while and BONUS you can use the remaining aluminum to build a MURS antenna !

Several years back I used a Station Master on 6m with no mods. Radio was a Yaesu 620. Worked several Australian states (Ok I lived there ay the time) and 2 US states.
