I wouldnt give you a bag of doggie doo doo for one IMHO.... Get a RCI 2985 or a 2517 you would be soo much better for it in the long run...

you said it, a pain in the butt to modify and in my opinion very overpriced. i woulsnt waste my money on it. i`d rather have an old cobra 138xlr or a ranger ar-3300 . GALALXY SHOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT WITH IT. TOTAL JUNK.

Well my local CB tech has has at least 10 of them in his shop due to wierd problem ranging from loss of the readout, no receiver audio out of the box the first time a guy uses the radio, radio has no output,to finals going out on a swr of 1.1=1.... A disaster......

Okay I've got to ask, why is it junk? It's a legal 40 channel CB base with lots of features. Yeah, it may not compete with a 2517, but that is designed as 10 meter radio whereas the 2547 is a legal CB.

What really makes this radio so bad? Does it really have a history of technical problems (like some new radios/cars/consumer products do when first introduced)? Are there actual facts to back this up?

I'm not trying to be arguementative with you guys but find out the real scoop and maybe give Mr Bubbles an accurrate answer.

CM 3885,

hey you beat me to the punch and answered some of my questions.

Were any or most untuned radios going bad brand new? Just curious.

They were almost all brand new.. In fact one guy just bought one new and all he did was hook it up and the radio blew a fuse.. He replaced that fuse and again the same thing!!! He took it to my tech who found the internal board was cracked!!!!

As tight as the radio market is it makes you wonder about galaxy management. It hurts both the dealer and buyer since most people link a bad radio to the dealer first and dealers want you to come back and a unhappy customer will not. I was unhappy with several galaxys on ssb they were so-so at best and at $160 per radio with todays techolegy there is no reason for it. One would hope they are not treating CB as a one time market.

Mr. BUBBLES

I try not to think about that radio at all until someone mentions it. The 2547 reminds me of a pretty 23 year old neighbor we once had living next door.

Pretty package but was in serious need of some chip rewiring. She couldn't comunicate well with others and was always drifting off to another frequency leaving the rest of us wondering where she went. She was right there in front of us but, just kept drifting away.

She finally married her cousin and moved away.

My 2547 came out-of-box with no problems. I did the following mods (blowing the pll chip once). channel mod by pin jumping. +/- 10kc jump using the ch 9-normal-ch 19 switch. clarifier mod to allow dropping 5 kc on an added switch. reduced carrior mod allowing 2w dead key with swing to 23w peak on my Bird meter. The result is a great CB radio equal to or better than the ledgendary Cobra 2000. It's rejection of bleed-over is much much superior to that of my 2985dx. By the way, Galaxy was no help with the blown RCI 8719 chip. They did not even acknowledge my E-mail!
