I love them. Got my 2950DX packed up!! Just bought another 257 today. All they need is a stronger mic than what comes with them.

BAREFOOT...

If you are a sidebander, try the Astatic 575. Have the tone control all the way down, mic volume 1/4 opened and the mic gain set at the 12-1:00 position.

The only problem is, you can't hear the great results you're going to get with that mic and radio together. And you have to go by other peoples opinions and some of them may not like the rich mellow audio of the M-257 when using the 575. Most of them are used to hearing tinny sounding, screaming D-104s. With the Astatic 575, it's not muffled or muddy. It just has a very nice FM-quality sound to it. I just love it.

Hey Ryan, did you ever get the fuel pump noise licked? I still have it in my vehicle and i have a NEW 2970 DX and still have it... Guess ill have to drop the tank and tackle the pump wire leads with filters and put a filter on the alt power leads and see if i can cure some of the noise......

yeah, i still got it a little. it doesnt hurt FM or sideband though. some of the locals i talk to on AM at night started using FM too on occasion. i get about 1 s unit of noise at around 3K RPM so it could be the alternator

Hey if you do or try anything let me know.. I have the same problem.. SSB and FM seem ok but AM has about 1 to 2 S units of whine.
