I have a galaxy melaka that has had way to many hands in it. someone has removed the pot to adjust the am wattage and wired it to the tone knob and now it only deadkeys about 3-4 watts and swing only about 10 w/ the tone knob set on +5 my question is, is it because the tone pot is not of the same value as the original pot that was removed from the board or is it something else????? Also would like info on beefing this system up as well as any mod and a users and repair manual on this model. any help and info would be appreciated. Thanks |

comptech , The instructions for "aligning" ALL the adjustments for the Melaka are in the subscribe area of this forum. As for the pot being the same value , it could be however it sounds like either one of two things is the problem..
1)It is hooked to 12 volts instead of 8 volts.
2) The ground side of the pot is hooked through a resistor to ground instead of direct ground.

have been trying to find schematic and parts layout as well as any other tech info on this radio with no luck... the wires run from the tone knob to the location where the pot use to be on the board are soldered in the exact location the original pot use to be, exactly. however, with the set-up the way it is right now the radio will dead key aprox. 4 1/2 watts and swing 7-8 watts with the tone knob wide open. I tried to return a pot to its original location, using a 1k and 5k pot [didnt know which one for maleka] both of which are use on the am power on ept3600-14b boards in galaxy radios with lower wattage results than the 200k pot which is used for the tone control. I am lost at this point with NO ideas, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Have considered the dual finals mod for this radio. Would this help with the overall performance of this radio or would it be a waste of time?? THANKS AGAIN! |
