The cheap price of the Voyage 9000 is telling me I gotta have this thing but that "no mic gain" really bugs me. Can a mic gain potentiometer be put in pretty much the same way a variable pot can be installed in a 148 for RF power. I can live with reaching in the rear once in a while. I pretty much would leave it full open anyway and keep the power mic toned down. Can it be tuned to keep the mic gain all the way up to full potential? I don't even need a pot in the back if I know its running full steam. Anybody?

Oh yeah, I really think Copper should post up this new pic of it from Ranger. It's a lot nicer looking than I originally thought and Ranger's pic would generate more sales of it just based on looks alone. Check it out:

Orion,

Well at first I thought like you did.

But after owning 2 of them and selling many more of them my advice would be to Leave it alone.

Every report I have had as well as the other owners is that it is LOUD! and CLEAR!

And I sure do not miss having to constantly adjust the mic gain.

This is one of the FEW if not the ONLY radio out there that does "NOT" need a Power Mic or Mic Gain to make it sound good.

Just my thought's.

Hey Lon/808,
I guess always having a mic gain control makes one feel like they need it but you've got me convinced. As long as it's loud, true, who needs the gain. It's a base application anyway so no background noise issues to worry about. Ok, it's on the list as is a Magnum Delta Force and a slew of other things I'm still trying to settle on. I plan on clearing out a lot of space at Coppers warehouse when I finally place my order:)(well, a chunk of it anyway) Thanks again for the response 808, you guys have been great.

Orion,

You are welcome.

As for the warehouse, go ahead and clean it out some.

That will help me the next time we make it down there. There are so many Radio Goodies/Toys, that I was not able to see everything.

Have a good one!
