kwick 73,

Well, I have had the Texas Ranger TR696F SSB Base for quite awhile now and I Love it.

Tech808 (My Better Half) done the Channel Mod & Clarifier Mod to it along with dropping the dead key down to 2 1/2 Watts swinging 8 and hooked up to a KLV-1000 AMP, that I got him for christmas.

I have the (SUPER STAR) SILVER SALUTE desk mic on it and I have always received great Audio reports (Very Clean/Clear and Loud) on it whether I am running it Barefoot or with the Amp on.

The Radio has been Problem Free and has always worked Great!

With the Channel & Clarifier Mods this is one Excellent Radio.

And I got it all from Copper.

I am sure you will be very happy with it.

PS, Tech 808 has all of his toys and station equipment, but this STATION is ALL MINE!

How do you like your KLV? I was looking at a KLV 550 myself, I have heard good and bad reports about them and not sure which to belive. Also do you mind me asking which type of mic that you run with the Ranger?

Kwick 73,

I love useing our KLV1000, on "MY Radio".

I use the Super Star SILVER SALUTE Desk Mic on it as I said above in my other post. See link below:

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodM60-03001+

You can read the Review that I helped Tech 808 do on the SILVER SALUTE in the Subscriber (Preview) Section of the Forum.

When I first got my 696F SSB base I used a Astatic Night Eagle, but after getting the Silver Salute everyone said I sounded like myself and that I am always Very Clear and Loud.

On the KLV1000, Tech 808 wrote a Review on it that should be posted before very long here on the forum. (I let him use My Radio and My Mic for the Review as his 2995DX Base had too much power.)

It has been Problem Free, & stays nice and cool with that big fan on it. It has worked very well with my Ranger.

On the KLV550, I do know he set & matched one up for our friend IRONMASK out in New York to his VR9000 that he also got. IRONMASK can probably fill you in on it as he does use it, (A LOT) and has had no problems as far as I know.

Also Tech671 also wrote a Nice Review on the KL550 in the Subscriber(Preview) Section also.

If you get a chance you should read all of the Reviews that the Techs write as I know first hand it takes many, many hours of testing and then writing the review's for everyone to read.

The Copper Techs spend a lot of thier Free time doing these Reviews, to help answer the question's that the Forum Members might have on a product.

When I helped Lon do the Review on the Silver Salute, we had well over 250 hours of testing it on every channel, AM/LSB & USB with different antennas, with power and without power, and also him taking Every Single Piece of it apart.

In my humble opinion it is the best mic out there and I like it's style/design and size.

And for Height Challenged people like myself I LOVE IT!

As you can tell, I am a very meek and sweet radio Operator.
