I have had this idea for awhile now, maybe it has already been brought up or has happened but if so I do not know about it. I would like to see Copper host a long weekend CB/ham convention for those of us on the Forum. It would be great if there was lectures or workshops given in a number of different subjects dealing with radio (maybe by the all powerful and knowledgeable super techs), plus it would be nice to meet all the people who make this such a fun place to spend so much of my time. I would love to meet some other forum members too. I figure that Copper is pretty well centrally located to the majority of forum users and they're only about 1200 miles from me, but I could take a few days off work to have a long weekend and really enjoy the drive and have everyone trying to make contacts on the way. Of course I would be willing to pay for a regisrtation fee and possibly teach y'all how to bar-b-que correctly!!!! he he!!! Plus it would be great to have a swap meet with everyone bringing their goodies and Copper of course having all of their toys for sale as well. It would be great to have a few days and just immerse ourselves in friendship and radio and maybe a beer or two thrown in for good measure. I haven't spent a lot of time in the good ol' South but the times I spent their were very enjoyable, great down to earth folks, and everything was green. Remember I live in Colorado and half of my state burned down last year. Anyway, is this anything that could happen, or does anybody else think this is a good idea? I think that late August or Septmeber would be a good time, but I could probably make it whenever. I hope I am not upsetting the management,
DAN

Triplecguy,

Dan, that would be great but there are a couple of minor problems.

You see none of us Techs or Moderator's are located in Louisville, Ky. where Copper Headquarters are located.

We all live in different states across the US.

We all have at least One Full time job and some two jobs, and then after that we donate our time & help here on the Forum.

If we all headed down for a BBQ there would be no one to do the Forum while we were all having a good time at a COPPER FUN FEST.

And then there are our wives and children as there is "NO WAY" the 1st Sargant woud let me go down to Visit Copper for a weekend unless she came along.
"OR"

Unless the FORUMMASTER promised to have the DOORS locked and armed guards there to keep me out of the warehouse, and promise her that Suzanne would not take any of my credit cards while I was there.

But I agree, it would be a BLAST to get us all together.

You see most of us Techs and Moderators have never had the chance to meet face to face yet, but we sure do a lot of calling and e-mails to each other.

Oh Well I can dream about it.

Lon

I've been thinking about heading down there sometime this summer. It would be cool. A pilgrimage to Copper!

Hey 808, I realize that very few people on this forum are actually in Kentucky, but I thought that most people could get a 4 day weekend. It would be a shame if you couldn't go, because YOU are the best Tech in the whole entire world (a little brown nosing sure can't hurt) and maybe 1st Sargent could come and give some of her beauty tips since she is the MOST beautiful woman on the earth (maybe that will get her to let you go). Anyway, this is just an idea, and I would really enjoy attending something like this. Thanks everyone.

I'd be happy to set up a talk-in station and assist people arriving--I could do 2 meter/ 440/ and 11 meter.

That sounds like a neat idea. If there were enough advance notice, like a couple months, then I could make it.

If there is a swap meet, I would caution against bringing any 'non-FCC type accepted' items to it. You just have to trust me on this.

I would suggest against a ham VE. Hams already appear to the CBers as the 'Borg' constantly trying to assimilate them into being hams. Sometimes the hams can really overdo it and be too pushy. This should be a nice event supportive of all the Copper customers.

What is 'Death Metal'? Does it sound anything like country? Do you know any George Straight tunes?

I would be willing to talk about antennas or high powered transmitters.

A COPPER FEST would be a good idea, and like Tech 833 mentioned a couple month's advance notice would be a necessity.

I also agree that no VE's would be needed, as it would be much easier for a person who want's to get his or her Ham ticket to do so in their own area that they live in.

As for a Swap Fest, My thought's would be "NO" as there are also a lot of Ham/Radio & Swap Fests in every state to cover that.

If Copper would put/sponsor it then Copper Products should be the only products there.

An old quote,
DO NOT BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU!

Also an event of this type takes a lot of planning, expense, insurance, display area, porta potties, parking area, tables, chairs, security, time, tents, and many other things.

And that is to just get it set up, after it is over then you have to take everything down & back.

Oh and then there is GOOD OLD "MOTHER NATURE" she can bounce up and make a big mess of everything.

Also a PRE-REGISTRAION & Fee should be Required as if it does not reach say 150 people, then the expense & time invested would not be worthwhile.

It would be a good idea but maybe somethnig to look at or plan for next summer.

As most everyone has already made their vacation plans for this summer, including the Copper employee's at COPPER Headquarters.

It would guess that it would be very hard to put something together for some time soon.

These are just my thought's from someone who has Been there and Done that.

The 1st Sargant and I would be happy to volunteer our time to help in any way we could.

Then it's settled.

We'll all meet at Lon's house. Tech833 will be bringing George Straight and some band that weighs a lot.

All that's left to do now is for Lon's 1st Sargant to set a date.

It will be great seeing everyone.

aint no george straight being played by my band. we got songs like "war coverage on god's television" and "pitting one new world order against another." the latter of the 2 is about putting the elite of the elite in a cage no way out with some of the spandex clad wrestlers on TV. great stuff

10:00? Tomorrow morning? Ooohhh noooo. I have to be at a Ham flea market at 9:00 tomorrow morning. And besides, I don't have the room for any meat. The two bags of chips and six quarter barrels I was bringing take up a lot of room.

Sorry i'm going to miss the 60s-70s and Country music that your 1st Sargant is providing. You're wise at leaving the noisy metal stuff to the kids.

Oh well. I'll try to make it next year.

73s my friend.

Hey 'all, who says it has to be summer. I'd be happier on a nice 70 degree day instead of 90 or 100. "Plan it, and they will come..."
