Ive got a 148 that is very dirty....Looks like new but dirty if that makes any sense.. anyway I was wondering what I can use to clean it up. I have the faceplate off of it and was thinking of just washing it with dish soap. Will that be ok or should I just use water Buck |

Buck. Soap and water won't hurt it at all. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Washing the boards in the dishwasher (on a low heat setting) is fine. In the sink by hand with mild soap (like Ivory) is fine too. Do NOT get soap and/or water in the pots (the rotary things behind the knobs). They will corrode and get really, really scratchy if you do. Those should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. |

IN the past we have cleaned (Royal Australian Airforce) radios with Mineral Spirits. Leave to dry a day or two then blow any residue away. Clean the outside with Eucalyptus Oil. These methods were used on a training plane that a student pilot parked at the bottom of Melbourne Harbour. We recovered 98% of the electronics out of the plane. By the way I better add I think what we used is called Mineral Spirits here in Australia its called Methylated Spirits. |
