Well, as some of you know the 1st Sargant and I made a trip down to visit COPPER last month.

We had the chance to visit with everyone and see how things operate in such a large business.

While we were there we did purchase several items including a NEW in the BOX Base Radio right off of the UPS truck from a Radio Manufacture.

It was marked box 20 of 28 on the UPS Label that was placed across the flaps of the box.

As I did not want any modification's done to it, and was going to do them myself, I took this radio home with us.

I had wondered in the past why Copper had changed it's Policy on Warranty Repairs.

Well I found out!

When I got back and opened the radio to do the mods I wanted, the first thing I seen was a Transformer / power supply with three labels torn off, and looked like it had been jerked from another radio and just stuck in.

There were scratches under the case where the factory had been very careless in replacing this power supply. Along with very sloppy re-wiring of the transformer.

As I am also a factory dealer for these radios and I was totally shocked.

I notified the Forummaster as well as taking Pictures of this radio and also notified the company of what I had found.

There have been many myths / rumors as to Copper selling refurbished radio equipment in the past.

I can assure you and I personally know for a fact that Copper has never done this at any time since they started back in 1975.

Also being in the radio business for well over 28 years now, I do know that when a company sells a re-furb it is labeled as Refurbished.

THIS WAS A NEW IN THE BOX RADIO DIRECT FROM THE COMPANY. WIth all factory seals in place.

After contacting the Manufacture I did learn that the Company knew they had a problem and changed these transformers once they arrived in the US.

They did not make Copper aware of this problem and probably would not have mentioned it to anyone if I haden't found it.

As a Factory Authorized Dealer for their products I had never been informed of this problem.

If you buy any Radio or other product from anyone and it has a Warranty on it, DO NOT BREAK THE SEAL or attempt any repair's or modification's to it unless you are authorized to make such mods or repairs as this will Void your Warranty.

NOW, I fully understand why COPPER has been forced to change thier Policy as to why you MUST ship your unit Directly to the Factory Repair Facility.

Otherwise if the Factory seal is broken the Manufacture will certainly say the problem was caused by you and not the factory.

Protect yourself, If you get a new Radio, AMP or other product from Copper, have them do any modification's that you want when you buy it.

It will arrive with a Factory seal on it and DO NOT REMOVE IT or BREAK IT!

And trust me they will not Fall Off or Wear Off or Break on their own.

This is your protection for your warranty.

This might have been just a 1 in 10,000 mistake but now I realize the if you are the one in that 10,000 you can be SOL if that Seal is Broken or Removed.

And unless COPPER or any other dealer takes the time to open and check every Radio or Amp (which would be impossible) they would have no idea what the Manufacture is doing.

Now I realize that COPPER did not have a choice in changeing the Policy but were forced to in order to protect themselves from the Manufacture's.

Just My Thought's

AMEN LON !

I have bought a lot of radios over the years and Copper is not alone in the problems the manufactures cause. Back in 1974 i bought a Midland 220 moble nice radio 12 ch 10 watts fm well it would work fine untill the car got down to 45 deg then DEAD! SO i contacted the dealer who took it in for repair and could find NOTHING wrong..... @ 75 deg..... of course. Finaly after 3 more trips in for repair i contacted midland who played dumb but said send it to us.... for a fee ofcourse.... hummmm now im mad! WELL time for cold spray and vola! dead radio! I contacted Midland again and they KNEW of the problem caused by too low heat in the soldering prosses but they were unwilling to even tell there own dealers or to recall the sets since the problem exsisted on a large number of them ....... money simply money.
Its been 30 years and i have bought only 1 midland since and it DID NOT WORK out of the box the 455khz filter was open! Radio is a tough way to make a living hats off to people like copper for staying with it!

Znut,

I will not post what Brand of Radio it was, as I am sure this MFR is not only one that is doing this to it's products.

Bruce was just having fun with his post.

lon i was using this as a example of problems found in mass produced radios IT WAS NOT MENT TO BELINE ALL THEIR RADIOS Since i have OWNED them my knolege was FIRST hand! ANY rech knows there will be problems with all radios no matter who makes it ..... some dealers just try harder to PROTECT the buyer Some dont.
