I am looking at this amp as a general local BS'ing amp and have a few questions-1-is it a tube or transistor amp? 2-Has anyone experienced any interference problems with it? Also this has nothing to do with it but if anyone knows I was told by someone that it would help with TVI and other interference if I took, through the chassis (ie cover screws) on my equipment amps radio filter etc..., and grounded all of them to a seperate ground rod!??? Any input or advice (will it work & how to do it and what ga. wire)cause if it won't hurt nothing I'm gonna be a grounding fool when I put this thing back together.

It is a transistor amp. I havent had any tvi issues with mine at all -- there is a cheap B+W set connected to an outdoor aerial through a cheap VCR right next to the amp and radio, and it just gets a little squiggly on high power, but no audio at all, and the picture doesn't disappear. The amp and radio are bound together and grounded to an 8 foot copper ground rod, I think it is 8 gauge wire. I'd say it is a clean amp, but I am babying it with just a 1 watt deadkey and peak of about 4.5-5.0 watts. (Roadpro Titan II RSPY-485). If you overdrive it or have a poorly tuned radio, it will likely cause problems.

Bullseye,

Like Highlander say's NO TUBES.

For you Radio Equipment have a separate " 8' to 10' STATION Ground Rod" as Close to your Station as Possible.

I run a Solid Heavy Copper #1 Wire into Shack and then hook everything to it via a Buss Bar. Keep ALL wire as short as possible.

Radio's, Amps, Meters, Switch box's, Tuners, TVI Filters, Antenna Rotor Box, Power Supply, Lighting Arrestors. EVERYTHING.

I use Regular 10 Gauge Wire

Just my Thought's.

Bullseye,

Yes just go to cover screws on Back of Radio.

I notice the outer braid of the coax is connected to all the chassis' on everything in-line,happen to have a 9' jumper then a radio shack lightning arrestor with 8 gauge stranded attached going through wall to 8' copper ground rod.Dx2517 and boomer 400,no interference on either tv,but had to put ferrite cores on all sound system wires and telephone wires,no problemo.

Thanks Guys I just want this amp to get around locally. I have my KLV 1000 if I want to get out seriously. I don't know if it bothers anyone as I only use it late at night and no complaints so far. BUT the 250 will run alot so I wanted to make sure that the neighbors don't get sideways. Highlander the radio is as clean as it can get (307s magic) 2.5 dk swings 10 or so so I should be A-OK. Here we go buying more wire. AIN'T THIS HOBBY GRAND :):):)

Got to looking through some old posts and was wondering if,maybe,I might be better off holding off for a little while and getting a KLV 550. I think it would give me a little more versatility with power, going from approx.100 to 450,and I would still have my big boy for late night DX'ing. Just wondering what Y'all think.

The KLV550 is a really nice unit for the $ and quite a wide power selection with 6 position output.

Yeah That does it I'm gonna hold off for a little while and get a 550. The 250 is a nice looking unit but i think I'll like the versatility of the 550 better. THANKS ALL WHO POSTED HERE.
