I think there here... Have been here maybe a week.
These are the kinds of sessions we used to have on the air. I am located in NYC and the band is pretty dead, save for the occaisional guy I don't want to talk to.

Hope you guys keep talking on the air too! Moderators and everyone are doing a great job here. Just wish I could do this on the air with regularity!

I used to get on when skip was coming out of NYC towards N.Michigan, but this guy would always follow me around the band,he would say something and end all of his sentences with QSL?He said he was from a local town but his brooklyn accent gave him away,I don't like talking to someone who constantly lies about his location. And everybody else would scatter when he got on the frec.A local buddy was afraid it was UNCLE CHARLEY cause he asked so many questions about our stations!

well it is kind of hard to have a decent conversation with some yahoo ( ? ) trying to interfere with you, some one playing music or trying to get an argument going, or cuss you out...i still hear decent conversations on the C B channels here in alabama, but generally if you get to having an INTELLIGENT conversation, some one wants to HARASS or aggitate you, so then the INTELLIGENT conversation ends and the bickering begins....you have to remember that CB is a licence free radio service, no exam or skill required for talking on one it is used by all types of folks from doctors to idiots ( and every one in between )( some say that their local doctor is an idiot )(lol)...like today on cb 19, heard a man asking about a decent BAR B Q place in town, so I told him how to find it, a quarter mile or less from the major 4 lane highway thru town, waited to be sure he had not drove past it or turned right instead of left and he found it, it was OPEN on the 4th of JULY and he was happy and he actually THANKED ME for standing by to be sure he found it, and not ran off and leaving an out-of-town person on his own to find the bar b - q place or get back on the main highway to go some where else....so all we have to do is be patient and friendly with folks and others will usually treat you the same...NO telling how many folks were listening to us today, and learned a bit...C B radio is good, like any things else, when used correctly and with style, it can be one of the best communication systems available, even better than cell phones or amateur radio, or any other type of communication. We just have to THINK before spiking the mike... just remember, every time you KEY the MIKE , you let all those folks listening ( even those who aint said a word ) what type of person YOU are, each and every time you key the mike...*whew i am long-winded, but mebbe things will be ok *

I was reading what Bigbob said and it was pretty funny. Who knows, could be a Brooklyn fruitcake that relocated to Michigan or it could be Uncle Charlie. I would think that UC would be smart enough to plant a guy who had the smarts not to sound like a "goodfella" if he wanted to attract intelligent conversation and information... but who knows. Did you know that the govt is looking for pedophiles on the internet(instant message services on AOL). Supposedly, they have kids working with them to teach these FBI "adults" terminology. Ha! For example, Led Zeppelin in "Un-cool" and Lincoln Park is "mega-cool". I guess all the pedophiles will be looking for any kid that likes Zep now that the news told us about it.

There are lots of good folks on CB you just have to pick them out of the bad ones that pretty much predominate these days... I used to sit up late at night and talk to a few guys that lived about 50 miles away from me. They were all good guys and i enjoyed talking to them.

Bigbob,

I agree with you 100%.

There are a lot of CBer's out there that are decent.

Around here we stand by on 13 and it is general agreement that if they have noise toys, roger beeps or want to play with Noise Toys there is 39 other channels to do it on.

I sell the toys & beeps and install them but I HATE THEM!

I love the guys with talkback & echo always going AUDIOOOOOOOOOOO, AUDIOOOOOOOOO, guess they like hearing themselves or cannot afford meters, or dummy loads.

We do have a 5 minute Dear Ab*y time each day where they can talk Personal Stuff, Cry, Complain, Moan or Groan about whatever.

Other than that we all have fun.

There are many Intellegent CBer's out there you just have to find them, sounds like you did.

Radio is like LIFE you only get out of it what you put into it.

question : is your "DEAR ABBY " limited to 5 minutes per INDIVIDUAL STATION, or the question and the answer from ABBY ? ...seriously it sounds like a decent idea, but could get out of hand in a second or two....i am guessing this is on cb 13, is there a special time of each day devoted to DEAR ABBY or is it just once per week at a certain time ( daily would be better..ie: 7 pm ) or twice daily 7 am & 7 pm.... in my area, we have channel 2 from about 3 - 6 am, maybe 5 folks, then quiet all day/night ---- channel 15 most folks are there, 24/ 7 , music, cuss fights, good talks, a great mixture of a good crowd of people, rough guess if all showed up at one time: 50 folks in about a 30 mile range --- channel 23: late night with folks from eastern Mississippi & western Tennessee...mebbe 15 folks, some arguing, mostly good times. So we have a mixture in Northwest Alabama around Moulton/Russellville/Florence area..99% are decent, and the rest can be walked on, so no big deal. if any one is on ssb, they are on 38 lower side...amplifiers: mobile a few with 500 watts or more --- base : some have a few kw but hardly ever use it, mostly 400 or less in a house and they are well maintained amps, most dont bleed more than one or two channels.. most popular radio: ranger 2950 -- most popular base antenna: antron 99 -- profanity: hardly ever on any channel at any time

Kd4amg,

Cryin Time is generally from 2AM to 2:05AM CDT and anyone and everyone is welcome. For all station's, first come first served if any one is still up to listen.

That way when we all get up and get on channel all that stuff is already taken care of.

great idea to put it at that time of day / night !! can we copy it or do you already have the copy rights / patents to this idea ? lol i figured it would be some where between 5 - 10 pm, but being at 2 AM is fantastic...no one is up at that time of night ( 99 out of 100 folks aint, any way ) and those that ARE awake arent around a cb radio... sooo I gues it works great !

...actually heard a "clean " argument on 23 last Sunday night on 23, locals gave a new operator on THAT CHANNEL ( he usually talks on other cb channels ) a really rough time, but the language stayed clean, no vulger talk at all...but the man was made to feel very UN welcome to join the crew on 23, all he wanted to do was say "HELLO ", but one or two others persisted in telling him he was not welcome and so on and so on... i just stayed quiet ( learn a lot more that way ), plus there was not much time in all the " quick keying " to get a word in edgewise. (lol) Happy Labor Day to all

kd4amg The one thing i wish for is that everyone on the airwaves get along with each other, some ways its good to have a difference of opinion,But we doint need foul mouth people talking on the air. In ways a argument will solve a soulution, to a problem. If both parties agree to (TALK) Intelligent without anger. The key word is (CONVERSATION). This old earth now needs more than ever to communicate with our freinds and foes.Remember we are at WAR.What you say on the air can be heard on the airwaves around this earth . It's still not uncommon for CB to serve as the de facto "telephone" in the "other side of the tracks" neighborhoods, at least in Oklahoma ;-)

No telling what kinds of gossip and personal tragedies you'll hear described there ad nauseum.

In my neck of the woods (N.Central Indiana.)there are still some decent level-headed cber's.

Most decent ones go below channel 1. I suppose to minimize the contacts with the idiots who play music etc.

It sure has changed around here compared to the mid 70's. There used to be hundreds of locals on channel 11 and it was a fun place to hang.

We have had in the past couple of years a couple guys who disquised their voice and for no good reason harrassed and made foul accusations about local cber's for over a year straight.

They finally got located by the locals cber's and it almost came down to some head thumping.

It would be nice to see it come back as it was in the 70's, but I guess there would be a downside too, like more idiots and noise in general.

Im also in Northern Indiana near the Michigan line and were I live back in the mid to late 1970s CB was HUUGE here and now it is deader than a doornail!!! Its not uncommon to cruise all 40 channels and not hear a single soul on the air except ch 19 being the only channel with any chatter.. There are a few locals that talk on ch 7 but IMHO thats the whitetrash channel. All those goobers do is cuss and cause problems. There are a few SSBer's up on 27.605 and 27.485 LSB but they are so far away and run weak stations and most of the time i cant hear them unless its really quiet and im on the beam..

Most of the negative feedback on this thread is what ran me off the lower 40 AM years ago.. We have a local group that hang out LSB on the freeband. Really pleasant radioing and also enjoy chatting with friends that drop in when the band opens up.

I know to each his own but I wouldn't give 15 cents for an am only radio. As a matter of fact a friend who was getting out of trucking recently offered to give me a "same as new" Cobra 29 Nightwatch he won at some grand opening. I told him to sell it to someone who would use it. lol (I did accept the Astatic 636-L that was on it. It's a nice addition to my mobile rig).

Up until about a year and a half to 2 years ago we had a very nice little SSB club that met up on 27.505 LSB and 27.665 LSB. There were about 10 to 15 of them. Great bunch of guys and everyone was courteious to everyone lots of fun plus coffee breaks were very common.. A really fun bunch to talk to! Now they have all gone either ham or they no longer talk any radio at all.. Kinda sad. Some of those guys ran some really sweet equipment!!! :-)

RCI2990...Same problem around here. We had about the same amount of people , now we are down to about TWO!!Makes you wonder why you need to to keep so many expensive radios? The skip cycle is down so there is no one to talk to! I'm thinking about selling everything off and just keep one radio! No one on AM except for some foul-mouthed local truckers.
