Hello Gage Im on ch. 40 usb at 9:00 pm tonight. I live in the outskirts of Ottumwa. Where the famous radar O'riley on m.a.s.h. lives. And Tom Arnold X- husband of Roseann Barr. Ill give you a call tonight. Nice to meet new people on the radio or internet. Skip is kinda dead, but have some good contacts.Im on flat side dipole, just took down antron 99 . very disspointed in it. Never could get swr down , even with a tuner (3-1-1) might have just bought a bad one. Just put up J-pole for uhf 463.5000 Mhz working just fine . Talked to xyl at 8 miles. 73's

Howyadoin guy's. Everyone is welcome here. This is probably the most informative site of it's kind although I may be a little spoiled by having a tech within 8 miles of me.I don't know anything about GMRS but someone here surely does. Just wanted to say "Howdy" and welcome you to the forum. Just as an advisory most of your questions can be answered by going to the search to the left and click on keyword and type in the subject. You will probably be amazed at the amount of info. you will find. Have fun and hope this helps.

Lowpower ... i have a pro-2053 and programed a bunch in it inc murs / gmrs / frs. If you want to hear things you need a GOOD antenna!!!! we have found on murs using the best we can find REALY pays off same with FRS only at FRS frequencys everything is 1/4 the power and 3 TIMES the frequency! if you want to lissen to limited bands the J pole is a great antenna and for FRS its EASY to build a 6 DB gain one! Im using a ham 144 8 db gain / 440 11 db gain antenna its a 17 foot tall vertical and now im testing it out on MURS / GMRS but its $100 bucks and only good from 140-160 and 440 - 470 but i can hear FRS radios at several miles ,,, best yet 4 miles .... and MURS at more tham 15 !
