Congrats, I'm proud of you I remember the day I took my test. I was so nervous, but by the end of the month I was a no-code xtra. I was stubborn then though so I never took the code and the tests expired but my friends kept on me so I upgraded to a tech plus then general. Just been to lazy to do the extra again. AGAIN WOOOHOOO!! for ya.!!!

Rippedradio, good going!!. I was the same way, really wanted the HF freqs. 2 months after I became a tech, I upgraded to general. In the mean time check out echolink, if you are not aware, it will connect you to repeaters all over the world. The down load is fast and free. Lots of fun too. Have fun, you earned the right. sb106

"Well guys finally got my amature liscence"

RR, one of the first things to do as a new ham is learn the correct spelling of your new hobby.. A lot of folks, (me included) had/have trouble with the spelling of "amateur" and "license". Once you learn it you'll never misspell it.
Just my little piece of grammatical "elmering" for today.

Congratulations. Hope you enjy the ticket and what it has for you. Tech license holders do have the "magic band" of 6 meters. DX can be worked there. Takes patience. Two meter ssb is a neat thing to try as well.

Until the code does whatever it is going to do, learn it, pass the test and then you can decide if you want to fool with it after that. The hf bands are fun. There are good ops there as well as poor ones. Find the good ones, ignore the lids and have fun. It is a hobby.

i was a no - code tech for about 12 years till I finally got the GENERAL in February 2003, the 5 wpm MORSE CODE was no real challenge, but had to take the WRITTEN 2 times ( I missed 2 too many questions the first time, then only missed 2 questions the second time... but the 5 wpm MORSE CODE was a snap...guess I listened to the 13 wpm tapes and on the test it all seemed sooooo slllloooowwww it was amazing...congradulations on what you have accomplished, I am surprised to find so MANY hamateur raios ops in this forum...but that is great !! ( hamateur...i like that )....aint found too many lids yet, heard one with an rg8u callsign during field day 2003, but that was nuthin major...talk later kd4amg

Congradulations Chris! Great achievement for sure. This is one of the best sites I have found where CB'rs and hams help each other. That what makes it so great. Be proud of your achievement.

Hey Sandbagger 106, was it you I talked to about 2 weeks ago? I talked to a 106 in CA when I was on my mobile (CB). I had to sign off as I was near my destination. I go by (now) "799 North West Washington". Might have been 38LSB, fairly early in the day. Just curious.

When will Copper start to carry more Ham gear? Maybe some entry level VHF/UHF stuff. Some dual banders and antennas / meters, MFJ kinda stuff, Times wire. I see they have the RCI5054 and some RM amps, but it seems to me you need a broader selection of products so one can buy everything to complete a station, to get the critical mass to tap the market that is obviously here with all the new and existing hams on the forum.

I'm sure Copper is/has looked into this, and they know alot more about marketing than I....Maybe they just need more specific info on what entry level hams (espec. existing CBers getting their tickets) need and want to get a basic staion on the air to explore their new privileges, and not going broke!

Highlander,

I have been discussing this with the Forummaster for the last several weeks and we are making progress.

The main thing is to decide what to carry, brands, and items.

This is something the Forummaster is looking into very seriously.

We will keep everyone posted on progress.

Several of us Tech's and Moderator's are Hams and we are aware of the needs of New (entry level) hams, and are working on ways to address those needs.
