I been lookin at the VR9000 and the magnum 257 for a while now and almost got enough saved to get one but cant make up my mind. What do u guys think.Im gonna be useing it on AM so im lookin for a good AM talker with alot of swing like my DX66V i sold a few months ago.I had about 5 of those. They are awsome when done right,But what to try somethin differnt for the mobil.Echo and rogerbeep are not that important but like to have it every now and then but dont need it.One of these will be in the mobil with a KL203 drivin a Davemade 600. 2- Vote's for the Voyage VR-9000, Honestly, we have never owned or used a Magnum 257, so we cannot comment on it. But we do own and use 2 of the VR-9000's and have sold many of the VR-9000's and have a 100% Satisfaction rate with the Radio's and our Customers. They have been problem free and very reliable under all condition's. With the Trucker's and Locals who have got them from us and ordered direct from Copper, it is our #1 BEST Selling Mobile Radio we have ever had. For the Trucker's that do not have time to stop by our shop, we give them the COPPER 800 number & web site address so they can order direct from COPPER. Good Quality, Good Performance, Good Audio, No Chrome knobs or front to blind you when the Sun is blasting thu the windshield, Bright LED's. Good Power and Easy to Operate, and Good Price. http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodE50-00021+ Just our thought's. Reddog355 The Mag 257 is great radio and really shines on SSB. Good power on AM but NOT that good in the audio department on AM. The VR-9000 will talk circles around the Mag-257 but the biggest complaint I get from customers is the fact that it has no mic-gain. No mic-gain = no control of the input audio going into the radio. It's nearly impossible to use the talkback when using a D-104. Put the Magnum AlphaForce and DeltaForce in your thoughts. They have everything you could possibly want in a radio. And they even have their own separate volume control for the talkback. RF Limited is the only company that offers that feature. Echo even works on SSB. And by the way, you're not gaining a thing by going to a VR-9000 from a Galaxy 66. The G-66 has been a tried and proven radio for you. Why not stay with them. You're right. When set up correctly AND with a NPC modification done, they are screamers. Just my opinion. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Another vote for the VR-9000, especially for mobil use, and AM. If you liked the way the galaxy 66 operated, you will like the 9000 even better. You said you like echo and rogerbeep sometimes, the 9000 has that. The magnum has the freq display thats hard to read in the sunlight. The 9000 has the freq display, plus the channel readout, plus a good meter, I hate those little old dinky bars for meters. That's my opinion anyway, and i've tried about all of'em. scrapiron |

Hey Reddog You have had 5 DX66 already. Where did they go? Did they get stolen? I would get a Midland 79-290 because it has a detachable faceplate. I also live in New Orleans and talk on 14. Give me a shout if you ever hear me. Bi-polor Bottle rocket |

I have four Magnum 257s and with a 575-M6 mic get better reports than my RCI2950DX, HR2600 or Lincoln. |

Reddog355 I had (2) 959's as a stock cb set they are fine but a MAG 257 walks all over it power wise the number of frequencys it covers dolar for dolar the mag is the best buy if your freebanding even better than a vr9000. Jusy my thoughts..... |

WHOA-----Wait a second---Bi-Polar Bottle Rocket, you reccomended the 79-290 because of the detachable face plate, and believe me, that is nice. I run one in the truck and it is a good radio for the money, however, the receiver stinks,it is so noisy that it can cause you to turn it off and go to VHF FM, plus although it is a dual final radio, I have yet to get more than 5 watts out of it, I've heard it's possible but I don't know how. If you are looking for a real good talking and good recieving radio, I would say to go with one of the radios recomended on this thread. I had the radio shack HTX-10 which is basically the magnum 257, and it really was a fun radio that sounded great, just my 2 cents. 73 Dan

my opinion still stands with the vr9000! excelent receiver, excelent power and all the toys! i would take a vr9000 over a 257 or dx66 or 959 anyday! there is no comparison for am/ssb talk! if you talk straight ssb then i would reccomend a 2950/2970, perferably an older one before the dx! 73's chris |

I know that the money will soon be burning a hole in your pocket, but do like I do,save like you've never saved before,I wanted a dx2517 so bad I could taste rf,took a year but I did it and fought temptation, why not get a real talker and put an end to the upgrades, like the galaxy dx48t am/fm 50 watts out,349.95 it's a lot of money, but it's a lot of radio and I think worth the wait. |

i have had the linclons and they are great radio's! i used to hate rci's and boycotted them for years then someone talked me into buying a 2950 and i fell in love!!! i sold the 2950 bought another one and another and another and on and on!! then i saved my money up and bought a 2970, and trust me i will be burried with that radio, i got it right after the dx came out and they were discounting the non dx! i love the older 2950/2970's and put them to the test with numerous other radio's! trust me it took me a long time to become a beliver but i would take a 2950/2970 over anything!! but remember that is just my opinion and everyone has there own opinion!! thats what makes the world go round!! 73's chris |

I talk ssb and at the time I wanted one fast and cheap and easy, the pc122 was it,today I'd get a 2950 and have it reset to run a 250 to 400 boot on ssb,for clarity and longevity(307s the man to do it)and thats the bottom line 'cause Bigbob said so. |
