I am looking for a radio (mobile) I am using a cherokee 150r and it just does not suit my needs. I like to run a little kicker w/my radio because I live for SSB freqently visit 27.555.0 usb..I need a excellent radio for heavy ssb. useage..Willing to pay in the neighborhood of 500.00 or less must have Freq.counter and variable power talk back not a concern cause you can't use it on ssb anyway. echo roger beep is okay...I hear that threr are radio's out there that talk on ssb. better than they talk on regular AM..I am committed to do european skip the antenna I'm running now is a 20,000 watt double tubro charged CB#1210...Also looking for a D-104 like a silver eagle or a night hawk I know that Astactic went out of bussiness, but some where there might be one for sale...Any information would be highly appreciated....

Shaun,

Why not get a New one from Copper $269.99 and pay the $30.00 for 11 meter & Peak & Tune.

Then you do not have to worry about someone elses used radio and you will have a NEW Radio with a Factory Warranty.

A 20,000 watt double tubro charged CB#1210?

Just how much gain does this 20,000 watt double tubro charged CB#1210 have.

what does an antenna like this do for your radio and is it really double turbo charged?

LON,

You know, I was having a blond moment all day yesterday and never thouhgt to send him to Copper. Sorry.

NITEMARE...go check out Coppers selection of rigs, they are very well priced and they will set it up and peek and tune it and make sure it is running properly before they send it. I would still go with the 2950 but as BAREFOOT stated, Lincolns are very good radios also.

good luck

Shaun, Inklink

P.S. LON, Tell Don (kb9umt) hello for me when ever you see him again. We chat all the time on the pc and he said he new you. He talked highly of you. Don is good people in my book.

73's

Shaun,

Will Do, Don is a very nice guy to talk with and a pleasure to know. He is only about 35-40 miles away.

Bruce,

I agree with you on the FM side of the 2950 not being up to par but on AM SSB I have no problem. Course I choose my Cobra 146gtl any day for SSB talking. It is a screemer on SSB.

I have been converted!! The Lincoln still has a great receive, I didn't give my opinion on the rest of the radio! The 257 is the best all around radio for the money. Actually my 257 has better receive than my last Lincoln.

im with 808,

the 2950dx with 11m mod is a awesome radio.

ive got 2 of them from copper.

well matter of fact all my radio's except 2 have come from coppers electronics. ive bought from them since the 80's and have always had good service with them.

the 2970dx is also a great radio.

bullet Having owned many 10 meter radios at this point including titans mag-257 radio shack htx-10 i guess i speak from a point of having played with most of them. Now i have had BOTH the 2950 and 2950dx and they are ok radios however my mode is FM ( the titan 458 mag 257 and htx-10 all shine on fm ) there is a huge diffrence between a 2950 and a lincoln on FM The 2950 and dx both are good for about .4 UV while my lincoln will do .2 and my alinco dr-03 will do .17 measured. The lincoln has much better noise limiting than the 2950 and with the chipswitch mod has enough memories for a range of SSB AM and fm frequencys while the 2950 if i remember only had 10..... EXCEPT for my alinco the 2950's and lincoln were bought from copper along with a long list of other radios and parts. The 5054 is a fine radio on 6 meters again works well on fm but lacks tone and memories and offsets but on 6 this is of little value. Just my own opinion but from ownership.

I would spend the extra bucks and get the Lincoln. The magnum 257 is a good all around radio for the money, but I believe the audio quality of the Lincoln to be much better, especially on ssb. The radios functions are also laid out better, making it easier to opperate.
just my thoughts,

bruce,
rodger that. i never really use fm on the 2950's mostly am with occational ssb. i was not really impressed with fm as you said but this is not a deal breaker for me as i never use it.

on AM how do you compare the 2950's to the 257 or lincolns. in sound quality in rx and tx. and the punching power in pile ups.

i want good ears, good clean but yet loud audio, and i want a knock out punch to bust through a pile up!

your responce.

if you live and die for ssb like i do the a president lincoln will be what you want match it up with a turner plus 2 and you will get flowers all day long. they have that "hf" sound. not cheezy, drifty cb sideband sound. just my experienced thoughts.

bullet The 257 is as good as ANYTHING on AM it has TONS of audio i found the 2950 a OK radio but it just did not do what i needed to do. Ill use the HTX-10 since its the SAME radio as a 257 /458 On 10 meters SSB this radio is as good as my yaseu and a better radio on AM Now like i said it REALY shines on FM for a small radio its high on my list. The lincoln again is suberb on FM and as good on SSB GREAT sounding audio and with the chipswitch mod is as good as anthing made for the 10/12 meter band while the 2950 always sounded so-so on ssb and noise limiting was not very good.
My opinion best buy
#1 257 all modes
#2 lincoln with chipswitch hot fm
#3 titan 458 ( 4 watt 257 )
#4 2950dx
#5 2950

Ive owned them all measured them on good test equiptment. Just myopinion

C'mon Bruce, don't be so modest, you're an experienced ham and you used good test equipment,it sounds like more than just opinion,I'll be the first to admit most of my insight on radios is just that, opinion!formed by what I've heard people say rather than hands on testing.

Taz,

www.chipswitch.com

This is the site that I recommended to Bruce.

It will give you 10-11-12 meters and many more features.

With your knowledge and your soldering technique's and all of the work you have done on your radio's, you should have no problems.

You will need a good de-soldering station, and take your time.

GO slow and check all traces and your soldering.

Use the smallest tip you have.

You will need the chip and the 64 pin socket.

I am getting old and slow but, it generally takes me about an hour. With tea breaks and distraction's & double checking everything.

Take care friend.
