I should be ordering my lincoln withing a few days. Just have a few last minute questions.

Im sure since its a mobile it has a mounting bracket right?

Also, The Power Supply is about 9 feet away from it, what should I do about a power cord?

My Astron PS is grounded both electricly and with a nice ground rod, should I ground the radio to the rod too?

Also, what do you think of lightning arrestors?

Maybe a good idea to use them as I hook up my base again?

Also, I have a supersidekick, and a d104 silver eagle, which would be the best for the radio?

Taz,

Yes, it has a mounting bracket.

Use 10 or Gauge Red & Black wire from Power supply to radio.

About 4 or 5 bucks for 12 feet at auto store

Lightning Arestors, yes I use them on each coax coming into my switch box.

(Until I can afford Polyphasor's for each coax.)

Mic's try them both and see which you like best.

On my HR2510 and Lincoln Both I use the Stock Mics.

Re questions....

Bracket- I bow to the knowledge of 808. I would take it that as a mobile it does come with a bracket. BUT you might want to get one of those slide mount brackets so you can put said radio in both vehicle and house usage.

Power supply-Move it. I would just use the wiring that comes with the radio. Move the power supply. Unless it is of those 45 amp or bigger continuous jobs all you need is a short section of "HEAVY DUTUY" exeension cord. The kind the RV people use to plug in their RV.

Grounding-most radio manuals suggest grouning all radios and other equipment to a common grounding buss bar which is in turn grounded to a ground rod.

Lightning-arrestors are OK and a nice precaution BUT the best protection from lightning bolts is to disconnect the power supply and unscrew the coax from in back of the radio placing both a discrete distance away so as to prevent any chance of arching. And even better you, yourself stay away as well.

I agree with the tech on the mic. Use the stock mic. It is manufactured to match your radio. PLUS if your new radio is the one I am thinking about (the clone of the HR 2510) the stock mic will have buttons on it that will enable you to move up and down in frq as well as initiate scan.

Old Base..keep it assembled and on a coax swithch that will permit you to access the antenna--just in case your main rig goes boom. You will have one ready to go.

Later

Taz,

I think your Turner will sound better on the Lincoln. The best reports I have gotten with desk mics on the Lincoln are from using an Astatic Supersidebander (D104 stand with 10dal dynamic head). A Shure 526T is another dandy sounding mic for the Lincoln. Your d104 should do fine, too, you just have to set it right.

You might consider the mic plug adapter available here at Copper so you don't have to rewire - they convert from 4 pin galaxy to 2510/Lincoln.

Enjoy that radio, it is a quality product all the way.

Those buttons on the mike of a 2510 are not worth much unless your on 10 meter, they get you on even numbers, i.e. 27.180,etc. Someone should have a fix for that by now, but I don't know of one.

Yep, that adaptor idea (thanks to 431) was given to me so nope, no rewiring for me. Adaptor all the way.

I like to always switch mics, over the 6 years I have been on radio I can't seem to just stay set with one or the other.

BTW what guage comes already on the lincoln power cords?

Hey Highlander, I didn't know that, i've had lots of 2510s, but never tried the chipswitch. I really never thought the chipswitch was worthwhile for just CB use, but it might be, I like the memory channels feature that it adds, like the 2950 has. scrap
