I can order an MFJ 2 KW oil filled can load for 59.99 or without oil for 39.99.......but bidders on EBAY pay $40 or more(NO OIL) for the Heathkit oil dummy load. Is there something collectable about them or do these people like to pay new prices for used stuff.

Sparkomatic,

You have to realize that most of the people on ebay have never heard of MFJ or know that they make one.

Also a Tip, if you get one you can use Dexron transmission fluid in it.

A lot easier and cheaper than trying to find transformer oil.

Tech808..........Dexron ATF in the dummy load, interesting. If I use Amsoil Synthetic ATF in the dummy load will I get longer load resistor life?..LOL. What properties must oil used in dummy loads have? I heard of mineral oil being used but ATF is a new one for me........cost effective though.

sparkomatic,

808 gave you a great tip thier. you can use other oils as well but thats as good as anything and cheaper than most.

unless you can get a good deal on a mint condition
item buy a new one and then you know its in good shape.
