2 weeks ago i decided to paint my slightly rusted tower. it was painted silver when i put it up in 1994. i didnt have any silver so i used the color i had the most of, John Deere Yellow! i painted the mast pipe yellow also. last week i was painting my stove pipe and decided to paint the rotor at the same time, now its John Deere Green, after all who said a tower has to be silver?

Gator,

Get three Car Wash Mit's, (Wall Mart) they work GREAT for painting towers and then get 3 pairs of rubber glove's at supermarket for washing dishes, to put on your hands before sliding them into the Mit.

When you want to change colors throw mit & gloves away, get next set and away you go.

I have used them for years and there is NO "EASIER" way to paint a tower.

mine is silver / gray / grey but it varies in each individual section as to the colar, since it was spray painted with wal-mart spray paint and some areas it is thicker ( and also runny ) in some areas, and nearly non - existant in others, so in reality it is 3 shades of the above colors, all 42 feet of it..it was painted from the ground, each section standing up vertical and hap-hazardly painted... i guess i could climb it on a good windy day and re do it from the top down, but why ? it is just a ROHN 20 ..nothing fancy, got a maco 2 m / 440 vertical at the top on a 10 foot mast, and a g5rv at the 40 foot level angling down to the ne and sw directions... thought of putting my antron 99 on it, but aint dont it yet ( it is on a 30 foot puch up pole about 20 feet to the west )...how fer from the ROHN 20 would I need to mount the ANTRON 99 from the top of my tower ? some folks say mount it dorectly to the top of the tower that the swr and radiation pattern would be ok, others say I would have to use a SIDE ARM to mount the antron about 3 - 6 foot away from the tower... any advice from the experts at COPPER ? and would I really gain any thing by raising my antron 12 feet , from the 30 foot pole now to the top of my ROHN 20 tower ( a difference of 12 feet ) ???

Hey Lon i never thought about that !!!!!
The car washing mite would work great !!!
Better than a brush !!! LOL
And a lot less time to do it so that means more time to go back to fishing or racing !!!!!

i was going to use a wash mitt but didnt like the fit so i wore a latex glove inside one of those fuzzy yellow chore gloves. that way with the fingers being usable i could use both hands for climbing

the 60'tower for the collinear array is rust-oleum
rusty metal primer.

ive got 100' tower behind the garage on saw horses i primed with the primer above and painted with rust-oleum aluminum paint.

and the 25' test tower is painted red but is in need of repainting.

im thinking of repainting the 100' tower with the primer because the 60' tower blends into the woodland suroundings real well, were the bright aluminum paint shows like a sore thumb.

taz i do like the glow in the dark idea on the beam that would be funny.
