ryan

I came across a problem like that a while back with M-257. The customer told me that it was working fine for a few weeks and then one day it started picking up some plug noise.

With the radio on and the engine running, I then disconnected the coax from the back of the set. The radio went dead. That told me immediately that the ground wire on the power cord had become disconnected. After hooking the ground wire back up, the radio of course powered up. And after reconnecting the coax, the noise was gone.

I'm not saying you have a poor ground, but it sure wouldn't hurt to chect it out for possible corrosion especially if it's hooked directly to the battery.

Just thought I would relate that little story to you in the event it may also be your problem. It's well worth the look.

i got the positive right to the battery, solid connection, and the neg to a ground bolt under the dash. worked well until recently. ill be sending the radio into RF limited soon to have the #2 call button replaced. one thing they'll have to fix on a new model. with that button missing, im stuck in the 10 meter band and we all know thats no fun for an unlicensed op
