i agree BRUCE... one thing worth mentioning about CELLULER telephones... why dont these companies have back up generators at the cell sites and wherever they may be needed... after all, we are paying MUCHO BUCKS per month for this service, surely they can do better than they are ? or should I not ask such obvious questions ?....on another note, this is a situation where AMATEUR radio & cb can show how good they are... when all else fails, who do you turn to for RELIABLE communications, and possibly should mention the use of C W in a situation like this on the AMATEUR bands. It gets through all kinds of noise, and is classified as a DIGITAL mode of communication for those who ( think ) CW is an antiquated form of communication...

They say we need to MOVE if there is interferance what arigance!!!!

"Given the tremendous potential of BPL to provide an advanced technology that utilizes additional facilities based mechanisms for providing services the burden should be imposed on challengers to BPL to demonstrate interference is a fact based, empirical proof.

Further, to the extent that interference is demonstrated, there should be an attempt to accommodate BPL, even if it means that existing communications providers may have to share or transfer bandwidth." ( HOW DO WE SHAIR BANDWIDTH )

Hey guys, this thing was a serious deal, the whole eastern section, and maybe the whole country could have been effected. When the two largest cities in two countries are shut down something is bad wrong. Read this article.

And also, the wireless network was not down, just overloaded for a while. If not for generators, all of us would have been without the internet. Here's another article.

Scrap Last night was only a tast of what could happen. if this had been a catastropic storm there would be no wire links no internet or cphones...........yet.... unless our frequencys are oblierated by digital noice over 1,000,000 radio users are still out there......as for not down i tried to get hold of a ham friend who lives in upstate new york in the sticks ...finaly this morning got hold of me from his car by hooking up with a local on 20 meters. As of 12 noon no c-phones no internet no power ..... this was only a test.....
