SSB is only dying because the number of people on the air is dying. Now some of this is due to the decline in skip some due to the cost of a ssb radio.Wate untill the skip is back in 2008 and you will have a better idea of just how many are realy still on and how many have left.

Well from the point of view from Central, Illinois.

Everyone is always talking on AM from Channel 1 to 40.

Channel 6 appears to have the big Power people on it.

Generally from about 6am to 9am you can talk skip about anywhere on the AM channels, and from about 6 pm to midnight, in and out on AM.

Honestly the only SSB I have talked more than 5 minutes on in the last 3 or 4 years is with the CEF NET on 13/27.115 LSB.

But you can always find someone on 27.385 or 27.485 LSB.

Well the main problem with SSB here is the newbies vs the old timers.. This happens all the time when i hear it and it P***es me off! For example, ok, a guy gets a new SSB rig like a galaxy 2517 or the like goes up on say, 27.565 LSB finds a group of old diehard SSB operators, says CQ and the guys rip him to shreads because the guy might be a 1/2 hertz off freqency!!!!!! Then the guy will go away never to use SSB again goes back to AM and complains about the guys up on SSB giving him a hard time and possibly selling the great radio for something else ..... All because a few old fart SSB operators wont tune to him if hes a hair off!!!!! AGH!! That burns me!!! If i hear a new guy using SSB and if im on the air monitoring ill pull him to the side on another freqency and help the guy out NOT bash him for being a 1/2 herz off.......................................................... get real!

SSB dying?? In the world of CB it has always been dead as compared to AM.

Probably the biggest reason is because although SSB radios sell well, most people that buy them haven't got a clue how to use the SSB mode. Or even want to learn how for that matter.

Many of the SSB radios that I sell go to people with the misconception of thinking that they will "get out" better on AM by using a sideband radio. Since the customer is "always right", who am I to argue with them?

Only the serious sidebanders will keep SSB alive and well. If I use almost all of my fingers and toes, I can count how many serious sidebanders there are in this city. The rest are CB AM-ers who are just thrilled to death if they can talk 15 miles away.

I just love it when the bigshot AM-ers dig into each others radios and start turning and twisting on things. Yep, the AM-ers keep me busy and my business alive while the serious sidebanders are busy keeping their hobby alive.

SSB is the most efficient form of radio communications next to CW. Try explaining that to a AM-er.

The clairifier deal is what seperates the serious SSBers from the wannabees... Ive used SSB for many years and love it but im also partial to AM.. I use both equally. I just dont care for the snobbyness that some SSbers have towards Newbies thats what i have a problem with...

Way to go my man. It's the operators like you that know what real CB communications is about. See what you can do to get others involved with SSB.

Good luck and 73s to you Diggerodell.
