I talk to myself regularly. Does that count for anything? No QSL cards to prove it though.

I never taklked to a famous person on the air. Howevever i have talked to Famous people in person. Kids talking to astronauts on the air is a good deal, from a local patch or net from high schools . EVERY ONE NEEDS A ELMER. And this forum is a elmer one way or 2 ways . So keep it coming. 73's Hal

When I was 20 I turned on my brothers mobile cb and heard President Gerald Ford asking for a smoky check from his car, most of the time he went to mackinaw island by helicopter, but this time he was going by auto and stopping at various towns and cities on the way to speech.I guess he was an avid cber before he became president,at least on the highway. What a way to connect with the union truckers,eh?

Hell if want I grew up with - I went to school (one year behind) Olivia Newton-John and then was taught by her father at college a few years later. I can also add I "pushed" Queen Liz's Rolls when it broken down during a parade at the airdbase I was stationed on. IN the 70s I went drinking with Alice Cooper when I did lights for his Australian tour. Finally I have had my feet run over by several international race drivers while doing rally checkpoints during the 80s.

While Gerald Ford was trying to get elected in 1976, his wife Betty had a birthday, and they decided that they would add a homey, common folk touch to the campaign if Betty received a CB set for her birthday. She proudly displayed the radio, boasted about her "handle" of "Apple Betty" -- but when she was asked how she got the license so quickly when there is a six to eight month backlog -- she couldn't answer and it was very clear that the tactic backfired. Within a few days, the FCC came out with what was called the "Betty Ford Rule" - instant licensing - where you would make up a call sign with K plus your three initials plus your zip code until the real license arrived. Then they abandoned all licensing for CB.

So what was Gerald's handle?
