I just purchased and installed a 2970DX and have been exploring all of it's features which brings me to my question....while tuned for SSB operations I don't get a power meter reading on the built in meter, regardless of power setting, when I key up and since I've yet to talk to anyone on SSB I don't know if this is normal or if the radio has a problem. The meter works fine in AM, I haven't given FM a try yet. So what do you guys think, is this normal or is it broken?

when in the usb or lsb mode you have to send audio for the meter to move unlike AM and FM is is does not operate with a constant carrier it has to be modulated for it to show a reading while keyed.

That is an excelent idea, unfortunately I do not have a second SSB capable unit. I was hoping that a fellow 2970DX owner would chime in with either "that's normal" or "that's not radio goodness"....I guess I'll purchase an external meter and see if there really is no power or if the built in meter just doesn't work for SSB.
