Hey, I like that meter in this radio, looks like the old Collins equipment. The S-9 sounds like Collins stuff also. Nice. |

This just in from RFLimited.....
Model | Available | Suggested Retail | Modes | Power | S-3 | Mid September | $179.00 | AM/FM | 40w | S-9 | late Nov. early Dec. | $299.00 | AM/FM/SSB | 40w | New Top Gun Technology Continuously variable power source. This varies the carrier level from less than 1 watt to 10 watts. On other radios this feature has only a minimal affect, but on the S series Magnums it has a profound affect! When coupled with the Top Gun Compressor and Modulator circuits the operator can set the carrier as low as 1 watt and the transmitter will produce its full rated peak output of 40 or more watts without adding the "distortions" and "band splatter" usually associated with other after market products. The audio is crystal clear and loud. The compressor circuit tailors and shapes the transmitted audio signal to punch through the heavy traffic, usually found in most urban areas. The modulator adds that extra muscle required to drive the transmitter to maximum peak levels under all operating conditions without added distortions. A peak to average ratio of 40 to 1 sounds like you just turned an afterburner. It can be the difference between being heard and not being heard. |

This radio looks ok to me. I don't see any of the goofy gadgets like echo or voice change and that is defenitely a plus! This one might be worth a try. 73's stickshift |

Appears to have echo. Looks liked a souped up Delta Force? |

Barefoot is right. It's pretty much a DeltaForce in a different package. Very close to the DX-99 face. That's dissapointing. Linear type RF section. It operates like the results you get after a NPC modification. It works like a modulator no matter where you have the power control set. It does have a digital echo. A RF Limited first. The volume control on the echo is actually the repeat control. Also a (AMT) ALL Mode Talkback. Another RF Limited first. The meter is the same one that's on a few of the Galaxys. Also dissapointing is the fact that you will have to "slide" down 5Khz instead of getting it electronicly. And that's a step backwards. DeltaForce owners know what I'm talking about. Six digit counter. And naturally the MUCH NEEDED Roger Beep. The only thing new here is the compressor and modulator circuit that was suppose to be incorporated into the new OmegaForce that was suppose to replace the Delta. And as everyone knows, the OmegaForce never materialized. The new S-3 Model is a AM-FM radio with the small styled S-RF meter that you see on most radios. It also has the compressor modulator feature. I think these radios are really nothing new. As much as I love the DeltaForce, I think RF Limited could have better spent their time in the design of a base radio and/or a 6 meter radio based on the Delta's design. It's sad to think that when a company, any company, comes out with a new circuit that they have to make the public think that they have a whole new radio. The plus side of this radio is the fact that they still have the "CLEANEST" and CLEAREST" sounding audio in the industry today. And that's a fact. Most of you don't know it but RF Limited has been a leader for many, many years. All the way back to their CCC days long before they ever became known as RF Limited. 73s Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Good post Jeff. and yes these "new" radios are nothing REALLY new, about the same old "re-invented"delta force and magnum 257.Don't get me wrong,I like the RF line of radios, but people are making a BIG,HUGE,MONUMENTOUS,deal about these new radios and there just isn't going to be anything,I mean ANYTHING,awesome, fantastic,or breakthrough, about these new radios.Good radios, yes, but other than some slightly new technology, about as good as the present magnums, delta forces, etc. with some of the good mods added in,thats about it ! |

i think it would be a straight radio if the 10 khz slide switch was replaced with a 3 position switch that will slide 5 and 10. i assume the 10kc switch is there for the alpha channels? |

I would just like to make it clear that what I posted above is not a review or necessarily Coppers opinion. We have yet to physically see one of these units. The above post was taken directly from RFLimiteds letter to it's dealers. |

Sorry guys. After another inspection I did see the knob for delay, indicating that there is echo on this radio. I took a quick look last evening after a long day and completely overlooked it. I think for the money a new lincoln would be a far better choice! 73's stickshift |

Y'know Galaxy could be really innovative and introduce a new base and call it the "DX2517 Giga-Quad" with a fully shielded switching power supply for light weight and four, that's right count'em,4 toshiba 2290 finals, for four hundred watts out ssb,200 am/fm,no echo,no r.beep;six dig.freq.counter,compressor-modulator,possibly an rf-clipper for ssb built-in,all this for say 799$,hmmmm? |

Hey Bob At $800 bills, it would still be over priced. For around $150 bucks less than your theoretical base, you can have a Kenwood TS-50 that has a pair of 2879s and will go from DC to 30Mhz. A switching power supply in a base? Now that WOULD be cool. Literally cool too. Good thinking Bob. Lol. Is this the kind of stuff you dream about at night when you're sleeping? If so, don't stop now Bob. Jeff, kc0gxz. |
