Ok, I just bought a new car and I would like to mount my radio in it but I don't want to "stick out like a turd in a punch bowl" if you know what I mean. I do remember at one time there was a console side mount that matched (or you could get it to match) your existing console. It was used for those old big original cell phones so you didn't put holes or damage your console. But I can't find them anywhere. Anyone have any ideas?? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. Tech671, I have a Galaxy 77 (bought it from Copper) was in a Tarus mounted under dash. Now I have an Acura TL... Can't find a good place to mount it. TomCat |

Does it have a console, I mounted some on the console vertically. |

That's a possibility, radio to console on pass side, although your console may not be tall enough. There are pedestal mounts available, you'd have to screw or bolt it to the floor on the pass side and mount radio to that, although it would intrude into pass room. I'd have to peek at anothe TL more closely for other ideas. |

I have thought of mounting it to the console as well. But I would like to some how figure a way to get it to "blend in" with the console. Other wise I will hear about it from the wife, we all know how that can be... :-) So any sugestions would be great. Anyway, hopefully I can get some time to sit and "fiddle" with it this week end so I can get back on the air. |

Tom, I don't forsee a way to get a Galaxy 77 to blend in the console or dash ports. If blending is a priority you may need to look at some of the mini radios. |

Tech671, I kind of came up with that idea myself over the week end after trying to figure where I could mount it. I was really depressed about it. I have looked at the portables like the Cherokee AH-100 but not sure of how it will compare to the Galaxy. What other kind of mini radio's would you recomend that would have the similar features as the Galaxy? TomCat... |

Magnum 257 and Midland 79-290, but both may still be too big, they are near the size of a Cobra 25. The new Mini Magnum available soon will be able to have expanded channels, but AM vol/sq only. Other than that it's handheld as you say. Something like an AH100 or it's siblings may do well, might need to add a small amp inline to help output. |

"""There are pedestal mounts available,""" How about a source for bolt in pedestal mounts? |

Me thinking more of a true permanant pedestal mount, not a slip seat. Something that would hold a Lincoln, a speaker, and an amp. Something that would get the radio off the floor and dash high. Thanks for the links. |

Thanks everyone, I did set my Galaxy up temporarily while this big "storm" called Isabel came through. And the radio, well, does look out of place. I think I am just gonna set it up as a base unit once my house is finished being built. I was looking through coppers product list and saw a nice hand held unit called a Eagle Spitfire I know that is sold out but the price is right. Hopefully it will be restocked some time soon. The Cherokee is just a little costly, concidering how much I have already spent on the Galaxy. And all of this trouble cause I bought a Japanese car. Man I knew I should have bought that truck! Oh well. Thanks Guys again for all of ya'lls help. TomCat (805 in Northern VA) |

Tomcat, I have a similar issue with my wife so I completely understand. Set the radio up as a "slip seat", when you are in the car it is there either on the floor of the passenger side or the seat, etc. When she needs the car unhook it and take it out. Use your imagination for placement and what you want to mount it on, etc. Compromise is the secret to long term relationships and this IS a compromise. I tell my wife there are worse hobby's to have... If she doesn't like that bolt a Magnum 257 to the passanger side of the center console on it's side and be done with it. I suspect when offered these two options she will go with a slip seat option...mine did... Point |

I ALSO have a similar problem with my wife. She won I'll have to settle for the radio at home and in my pick-up, but none in her 4runner. It was the noise, not the unsitely installation. I was going to mount it on the "back" side of the console and leave it on one freq. I would not have been able to see it if I was driving anyway. Peace and Harmony at my house... |
