I have already spoke to Copper about this, but I thought I would post it to get some feedback from readers.

I have come across an amp from RM of Italy www.rmitaly.com that may be a hot seller for Copper. Since Copper already sells the RM line, the KL500, KL300, KL200 etc. In my opinion this would be a great addition.

This is an all mode, all frequency amp that works on 11 meters right out of the box. This amp has a microprocessor inside, swr protection and heat protection plus a lot of filtering. And a band switch to change to whatever band you want. It can be used on ham one minute and 11 meter the next.

I spoke with 307 via e-mail, and by what he has read he seems impressed. I am told 307 is going to get a hold of one to give it a test drive.

I have a feeling this one is going to be a "thumbs up!"

If you have the time, please have a look at it on the RM website and let me know what you think.

If this proves to be a winner and enough of us would buy them, maybe Copper would make them a regular stock item.

Please note:
This post is of my own research, and although every effort has been made to the accuracy of my claims, I nor Copper can assume any liabilities for misinformation on this amp.
Please read the RM web site and make your own judgements.

Thanks,
Kattracker

Forum Master Note :
We have access to the HLA-150 but not the HLA-150F at this time. If you are interested in the HLA-150 we will offer it to you at our cost($210) if you would be willing to write a review. Let me know if you are interested.

I forgot the mention the most important part of my post on the RM amp, the model. It is the HLA-150V.

The V model has a fan, the standard 150 has no fan.

The forum master did make an adendum to my post per my request.

Thanks,

I saw this amp too on the web. With 10-160 meter coverage, it looks REAL nice. I wonder what the output power is if run conservatively (loafing)?
I like to run my stuff for very CLEAN output.

N4ari,

If I am correct the amp has two SD1446's
And again, if I am correct, they are good for 90 watts each at 5 watts drive at 12-13 volts.

I am told this amp has been around for a while. Since it has not been advertised I never knew the amp existed until looking at the RM web page. www.rmitaly.com

At first glance I just assumed it was strictly a ham amp. After reading the online manual I found out that it works on 11 meters too with no modification needed.

So, my opinion is, it is a ham quality amp that can be used for ham and 11 meter with merely turning a switch. Since it has many filters in it, that is a plus for me. I not only want power, I want VERY clean sound and want to avoid, or at least minimize, harmonics.

Again, my opinion, once people get the exposure to this amp, and see what it is all about, it may be a regular selling item. I think it has been overlooked because it may have been thought of as a ham amp, and therefore no interest to 11 meter users.

I am going to buy one in the next month or so, contingent on 307's opinion of it.

My wife says I have already exceeded my radio allowance for a while. Especially since I bought a Linclon from Copper last month.

Anybody had a look at this amp yet?

Bruce, Alsworld, Kc0cxg and others, I could use your opinion.

The HLA-150. 307 is going to get one soon and test it. Any of you with technical knowledge, I would appreciate your opinion of this amp.

The pictures and technical data are very informative. You can read the manual and schematics right on the web site. www.rmitaly.com

Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks,
Kattracker

Hey Kattracker,
I just got one last week, and it's a terrific amp. Very very clean output, it doesnt work on 11 meters right out of the box, you have to slide off the bottom cover and just remove the one jumper off of the two pins, that's it. With the amp on low and a 2 watt dead key it does 20 watts and swings 110+ with a 2 to 8 watt input swing from the radio. Nominal (talking) it does right between 50 to 70+ watts. On the high side (with a 2 watt dead key)it does 70 watts and runs up to a little over 150+. It wont sound pinched up until you start putting about 5 or more dead key watts into it so it's pretty forgiving. Everyone I talk to using it says it sounds loud and clear. SWR's dont even hardly budge up from bare foot if the amp is on the high or low side on my I-Maxx 2000 or my Maco 103's. It will shut itself down if you get it to hot or you have high SWR's. I have a 25 AMP Trip Lite P/S running it and the P/S hardly gets warm. The box itself warms up quickly but it also cools down at about the same pace. From what I can see inside the AMP it is very well made and quite impressive. Get one, you will love it! Sorry to Copper, they dont have it listed and I found this post when I did a search.
Mine doesnt have the fans but they are supposed to run at variable speeds to keep things quiet. Copper should sell this amp and and it's big brother the HLA-300F version as well. A very good piece of equipment.

Forum Master Note :
We are slowly getting more of the KLV ham amps in stock. We now have the HLA-150 available. You can find the full list Here.

I wish they would make a 6 meter all mode version of these amps. Their website shows amps for the 42 mhz range ? but not for 50-54 mhz.

I will definitely try a 2 meter SSB amp when I can afford it, and wish there was a more affordable 6 meter all mode amp other than the Mirage amps.

how about it Copper? can you provide a decent amp for 6 meters?

I agree sooooooooooooo much about offering an affordable all mode 6 meter amp. It could be exactly like a palomar or shooting star, you know, the ones with SD1446 transistors. They were made for 50mhz. The only difference would need to be the way they're matched. I beleive those 2 and 4 pill boxes even have some bias so they will work SSB also.

At 50mhz the sd1446 will max at 70 watts ,but thats to be expected with increased freq.My palomar 250 has 2 sd1446s and my boomer 400 has 4,very good little pills.Bigbob
