I want to better understand which power supply to use. Suppose I have a mobile 10 meter radio & I use it at my place, I would need to use a power supply. Ok, I have a 3 amp to use. But what if I used a 10 or more amps? Would this be an improvment? Would it be better for recieving DX? Thanks. |

You will not benefit from a power supply with more amperage than your radio needs. For a 10 meter mobil you will need a little more than a three amp power supply if you talk on sideband.A 7-10 amp power supply would work perfect. As far as recieving dx goes, yor radio uses very little power when receiving and like i said a bigger power supply will not help. How well your radio recieves is all in your antenna setup. |

And whatever you use do not use a 12-volt battery charger,or unregulated power supply, you need a fully regulated and overvoltage protected power supply, such as Tripp Lite or Radio shack. |

I am mostly interested in recieving DX. Couldn't I use a preamp? Could I have more then one preamp & have them all connected together? And yes I do know that the signal comes in stronger, but so does the noise. Is there some that could cut down the noise & not the signal? Thanks. |

Having two in series would be like having 2 amps of same size in series, you would overload the second one and blow the transistors. |

Rfman100 I second everything Bigbob said except for buying a Radio Shack power supple. Copper has better power supplys for less money. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

The problem with a preamp is that if you use just a regular audio amp you will amplify both the signal AND the stuff you don,t want (static, bleedover, etc). Try doing a search of Amateur Radio software programs that use the soundcard of your computer to act as an Audio Filter. Most are free for the download and they just might work. |
