She's coming this way~~ Isabel is coming up the Coast towards the home- twenty here in the ole' Dominion of Virginia. I guess, I'll be seeing if my Maco V 5/8 holds up in the winds. I'll have to give a report as soon as it passes through here. It's securely guyed but even being made of aluminum that antenna sways a bit. We'll be checking it out for sure! Stay dry to all you other operators out there on the Eastern seaboard,... should be good skip the next couple of days,... Mexico is bending my needle over here! LOL XLAXX |

With winds at 150 sustained, might I suggest you build a wire antenna for after the storm. I know of no antenna that can take 150 sustained for hours. DE Remember if you are on the coast go to Arizona. |

Im sitting here in the Va Beach area of Va! And this time I think mother nature is serious! CB Radio might be a good thing to have after this! I remember where I was raised in Long Island,NY in the late 70s a hurricane came through and knocked out power for 6 days! Although CB was at its zenith then,It proved extremely valuable for communication! Anyway Im keeping my fingers crossed that it somehow changes course! Everyone else in its path! God bless and be safe! |

Thanks for the encouraging words guys! They have closed the Federal Government already and most of the schools and counties in the area.... not a drop has fallen yet!LOL In Washington, DC, they have closed down the Metro services,... Including BUSES. Looks like a Whopper of a storm. Bracing for the best! XLAXX |

I once lived in Tampa Florida for 6 months. I did not bringh my CB with me. (which I hate my self for that) The only radios I brought was 1 radio Shack Shortwave, an a radio shack scanner & my radio alarm clock. One day I read an article in the local paper that mention that Florida was the most lightening strick State in the US. It rained alot. I was afriad to put up an atenna on the house. I spend most of my radio time listening to NOAA in the garage using batteries. And there were a few cases on the news of people being hit by lightening. As a good practice always unplug the coax from your rig when not in use. And if you must have a CB radio on in lightening conditions, use a battery handheld in doors away from the windows, especially if you transmitt. Sam Smith |

Well We Made It Through!!! The Maco V 5/8 stood up strong and weathered the storm well. I was concerned because I have several tall maple trees in the backyard and with the sustained winds of 50+ mph, I was preparing for either a lightening strike or dropped branches. Anyway, about 12 ft from the antenna, I had a limb fall from one of the maples that DID puncture my roof about 3 inches into the house. Nothing hit the Maco that I could see and the guy wires are still tight. We're safe, that's all that matters. Unfortunately the power did go out for about 3 days so the base station was down. No CB,....oh gasp!! The Maco is great antenna,... no complaints. XLAXX |

xlaxx my power went off at 11:00 pm last thursday and did not come back on until this tuesday at 8:50 pm(5 days) there are still about 300,000 still out.there were 1.4 million people without power in my area alone.it looks like a tonado hit here in some places,in the area where our office is,every 3 to 5 houses on each street has a tree going thru the roof,or thru his neibors roof.most cars are crushed.some are without water, power, and phone lines are everywhere except the poles.they are food stations set up in this area,as well as water and ice stations.there are up too 2000 people in these lines every day.mr bush will be here tomorrow,he already declared this area a disaster area.the midtown tunnel is closed it has over a 300,000 gallions of water in it.nope! the norfolk hamptonroads area did"t do to well at all.but because of pre-planning loss of life was was not high,so we thank god for that sixkiller505 |

I’m located in the Hampton/Newport news, area of Va! A lot of people are without power still! Looks like an army of power crews from different states and even Canada are here! They are doing a great Job! But so many trees are down and power lines are down, in a lot of cases they actually have to rebuild the system! It’s sad to see the destruction by the water! This was a category 1! I can’t imagine a category 5! |
