I am in the market for a tester that can test the old Browning tubes to 8950/2057 tubes,...circa 60's-late 70's.

Something that covers a broad spectrum of tubes.

Any recommendations are MUCH appreciated!!

Thanks

There are many tube testers on Ebay. But no matter where you get one from, make sure you are getting the manual and tube listing with it.

And be sure to get one that will check tubes under a load. Not all tube testers were built to perform that funtion.

Sencore made some good testers. I've got a Mighty Mite VII that is really nice. Also got an older one, a Mighty Mite II, it works good, but its hard to check a tube under load with it. That is most important for the power tubes. Most of them will check the 8950 and 2057 even if they are not listed. They check the same, and you set them up same as a 6LB6 except for 12 volts for the heater. I've sold and bought on ebay for about 5 years, you gotta learn the 'catch phrases', watch out for these:

1. estate sale item=generally doesn't work, ready made excuse.
2. unknown condition=does not work, generally junk.
3. not tested=same as 1 and 2, who would not test something knowing it would bring lots more money if in operating condition.
4. selling for a friend, condition unknown=junk
5. picked up at pawn shop = same as # 4, junk

There are several more, but you get the drift,
lots of good sellers on ebay, but also lots of crooks, thats how i've found it. scrapiron

I have a heath made in 1952 with the books if you can find one its a good choice better yet a transconducting tester is the way to go hickock was the top of the line back 50 years ago. There isnt much demand for them so it should not cost too much .... although on ebay you never know.

With Scrapiron63 and Inkman's help and guidance I was able to get a pretty good deal on an old Sencore tester. Tests 8950's too and is in excellent condition. Everything works too.

THANKS SCRAPIRON!! Great Emailer!!

Also, Bruce,... thanks for the offer on the loaner tester!

Anyway, I bought mine off of eBay,...I know what you're thinking,...uh oh, right?!

KEY WORDS WHEN BUYING OFF eBay:

Thanks again guys!

Just to let everybody know though,...
Scrapiron and Bruce have got the knowledge, that's the key. I just got great wisdom and advice from them. I felt comfortable with my purchase when others were checking it out for me.

Hey Kirk! I'll test your tubes! Anybody who wants me to test a tube, I'll do it,... it's kinda fun.
hehehehehe

Anyway, this forum is great and has the best members! Thanks again Scrap and Bruce!
